It means that God has shown you something in the Word or in life that you can use to help yourself or others to better themselves spiritually. It can be something harsh or something delicate, but either way, it will heighten your understanding of the situation you were praying about in the first place. Or, it could be that God has simply chosen you to deliver a message of some sort to show people that anyone and be used in God's service if they surrender themselves to Him. Look at Saul. He went from being a murderer of Christians to Paul, one of the wisest early Church preachers! So, to get a revelations from God in a thing of great honor and relief. Be grateful that God speaks to you in this manner!

Since I believe the Bible is just the way God wants it to be...meaning there is no new information God wants to give us...
To me, having a "revelation" in regards to a spiritual matter would be that someone has read the Bible and understands it.
There were a lot of things I didn't understand in the Bible when I was a new Christian. Like Jesus' teaching on casting your "pearls to swine". I understand what he was saying now. It has been revealed to me by God. It is not a special revelation just for me...it is knowledge of the Bible and of Him and the information can be found in the Bible.
Revelation is just slowly learning the truth about God and the truth is found in the Bible.
Revelation is not a special message from God that I need to stand up in front of a church to tell the congregation. I used to go to a church like that...and most of the messages turned out to be false.

It means you suddenly understand things. If i said 'i've had a revelation on the cross word' i would understand how to solve the cross word. If you have a revelation in spiritual matters it means you understand them in a certain way which makes sense to you.

I think the word you're looking for is "epiphany". A moment of clairty, in this case, regarding spirituality.
A moment of clear understanding about the spirutual nature of existence.

The Holy Spirit shows you exactly what is meant from the Scriptures or something we are praying about. It becomes clear to us at the time it is shown or revealed.
