Hi again, u asked a question i replied to not too long ago.
Your question "What is a psychIatric assesment?" is a follows: Your Dr. has obviously now refered u to see a psychiatrist. I have only just come online so will be answering ur question after the event.
What ur psychiatrist would have done will have given u what is called an inital assesment. Referring to ur previous question this would have been as an out-patient. The psychiatrist would have studied the notes relevant to your specific case and have looked further back into your medical history to see if there was any evident root cause to have caused your present problem.
On seeing your psychiatrist u would have been asked various questions relating to ur present problem. With the result of ur answers and maybe questions combined with your medical history your psychiatrist would have been able to make an initial (or interime report) - your 1st assesment. You make have been given short term medication and another out-patient appointment for u to attend.
Usually between 2 - 5 appointments will be required for ur psychiatrist to determine your actual present condition. On the outcome of your final assesment your psychiatrist will have determined what ur condition is and how best to treat you. For example : counselling , short term medication , or to continue to see them as an out- patient . The mentioned are just a number of options available but your psychiatrist will have determined the correct course of treatment for u personally.
Whatever his inital and final assesment is both ur dr and yourself will have been informed and any reccomenations that your psychiatrist has made will be followed up by your Dr.
So in essesnce a psychiatric assesment is an indepth look into your problem and the best way to trreat it at present.
All the very best with what lies ahead.
I hope in some way i have answered your question......

It consists of a 500 question questionnaire. It is a nation wide test to determine what,if any, mental illness you may have. This test is hard to fake. The way they ask the question more then one time makes it easy for them to detect mental illnesses.

Then you may or may not have a session one on one with a counselor, and be asked certain questions r/t why you are there.

Wear clothes you normally wear and if you don't like to wear make up don't.They will also assess your need for psychiatric problems by the way you dress and your personal hygiene.

you may take a really abbreviated i.q. test (like 20 questions) that's just accurate enough to say, on paper, that you're smart enough to tie your own shoes

you will answer lots of questions, either while talking with a psychologist or on paper or (now) on a computer questionaire. they'll be a bunch of true/false questions such as: "I hear voices. True or False" or "It's okay to steal as long as I don't get caught. True or False" and they'll ask them over and over again.

there will also be short-answer, fill-in-the-blank questions like: "When I go to sleep I usually______". They'll usually start off sentences and let you finish them, such as "Most women___________________".

you may have to look at a rorsach (inkblot) drawings and explain what you see in them, or look at pictures and make up a story about what you see in them. or they may ask you to draw a picture about an abstract concept, for example "What does a secret look like?"

most everything will be very open-ended and oftentimes it won't be what you answer that really matters as much as how you answer. Since a psychiatrist can't really give an accurate diagnosis based on a few hours of questions, don't worry about them not telling what's wrong or right with you just as soon as you're finished. it'll probably take weeks and they compare it to the other notes and things they've already written about you. try to relax and have fun, after all, not every test asks if you like starting fires more than once.

This means that a psychiatrist and/or some other people will be asking you a bunch of questions. Answer honestly but don't elaborate. You may be taking some written psychological tests also.

Some tips--take a bath, wear clean, modest clothing, and if you're a girl, be sure to wear makeup, but don't overdo it. Take it easy on coffee, and needless to say, no recreational drugs.

They aren't very nice. You will be asked loads of questions. Just relax, answer them as truthfully as you can, and if you lie you will be found out 'cos the questions are devised in such a way to catch you out. Drop your pretentions and be yourself. Wear clothes that do not shout at you, that you are comfortable in.

I would think they would ask you about how you feel about this and that. What you think about this and that. Then they'll talk to you like they're having a conversation but they will be watching your every move. Just be yourself. They probably got more problems than you have.

Sounds like trouble. Run, but make sure you are wearing "normal clothes" not a toga, or too-too, or fluffy bunny slippers. Good luck, run like the wind.

they want to see what kinds of symptoms you are having, as well as making an assessment on your condition,so they can be able to give you an accurate diagnosis,if necessary.

They want to know what sort of personality you have and what sort of abnormalities you have, if any.

Go unarmed and wear clothes.
