I'm not a "theist", but all of my relatives are Christians. They believe it's wrong to question their beliefs, so they would not look at books used by other religions. I attended Zen Buddhist services in San Francisco's Japantown. Christians who learned this prayed to have the "Devil of Buddhism" removed from me. A Buddhist priest did not mind my going to Christian churches. That should tell us a vital truth. I majored in Art and Philosophy. One of my Philosophy professors lived in India ten years. From him I learned much about Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, etc, that began in India. I've had lovers from China and Japan, and I know much about Taoism, Confucianism, Shintoism and these lands' Buddhism. All too many people are ignorant of any religions, besides the ones with which they were brainwashed. Learning about many religions makes one more objective about them.

Before I became a Christian, I was searching in several different directions, including scientology, dianetics, and drugs to find some kind of "meaning" to life.
I did not "CHOOSE" Christianity. In fact, that option was below my last option. But when I met Jesus (somebody prayed for me in the name of Jesus, and the Lord definitely touched my life, opened my eyes to His Reality and Truth, and set me free from the affects and influence of the drugs I had been taking, which I did NOT want to quit, because I had gotten side-tracked from my search for meaning, and was just simply enjoying the drugs - mixing LSD with speed, booze, etc, so I was not trying to quit drugs) -
But (getting back on track), when Jesus opened my eyes to His Love, power, mercy, etc - I could no longer deny His existence, and as a result, I am now a firm believer in Jesus Christ.
Since that time, I have seen no need to read texts from other religions, because once God opens your eyes, you don't need to keep searching elsewhere.

I was raised Jewish and mom's side of the family was Christian. I converted to Islam. Before converting, I studied Budaism, Shintoism, Taoism and many other "ism's" before making this decision. However, I feel like I had some insight sent to me in a dream which was like no other. In Islam, it is said that Allah guides those whom he chooses and I was no different. After my dream, I woke and had questions. A freind said go to islamtoday.com. I did and I clicked on Discover Islam. That page described my dream.

Atheist do not have any religious texts - they do not believe in any religion ! There are no set rules for atheists. They will be governed by the law of the country they live in and they will abide by it !

The so-called religious books written by men are of no value.
Only the Holy Books revealed by the Messengers of God deserve this name. You should learn to know more precisely what is the real concept of religion, of Messenger of God and of Holy Book. Otherwise your learning will bring you to nowhere.

I have a copy of the Qur'an at home. My husband has read parts of it to try and better understand Islam, but I have not read it. I spend my time studying the Bible and praying with God about it to get a better understanding of Him.
