There should be no problems.

Once installed, just go to the Windows and load all the security patches, and fixes (some are quite large)

When you load all the patches, you need to do them in sequential order as some of the build upon each other, but it is well worth it, as there are lots of little bits they have added or tweaked as-well as improving Security.

Best thing I find about the older version is that the stuff is very stable, faster to load, and is still very compatible with later versions.

It is also vastly superior to MS Works which creates files in some weird unreadable formats in the real world.

This computer is 2+ years old but I still use Office 2000.
Just haven't needed to update it yet.
It will be outdated in the fact it doesn't have the latest greatest "bells and whistles" lol
I still prefer it 100000% more than ms works. <-its OK just not the standard everyone else uses and kind of lame in doing what I need.

With any New software have your important data BACKED UP before you install it.

One of the first things it will want to do after installing is update its security settings through Microsoft. You should let it because since 2000 there have been MANY updates.
I believe Microsoft has even stopped New updates to it, but should still have the old updates.

You can use it, certainly there's nothing to keep you from installing it as long as you have a valid license key. But you might want to check out OpenOffice which is in many respects completely compatible with Office 2003, http://www.openoffice.org/

I had the same as you with regards to programmes. My nephew gave me word, excel and he put it on the laptop no problem. So my advice would be to go ahead.

i don't think you should install the cd because you have the latest os and office 2000 sp1 will not do any good.
