My friend has recently denounced his Christian faith and is now a Wiccan. I'm curious about his new lifestyle, and he invited me to a thing that Wiccans do on the full moon. It's tomorrow. He won't tell me what it is, because he wants me to experience it without any biases . . . or something. Any Wiccans here? What happens on the full moon?

I think his not telling you in order to avoid you going in with preconceptions can be a good thing. And provided that the group he's with is actually Wiccan instead of "wannabes who think that witchcraft is k3wl" (which unfortunately are out there), anything that folks here could tell you would be generalities and not necessarily reflective of what his group is doing, because circles can be very personal to the groups involved.

A note for the other answerers - some groups may practice skyclad (naked), but if they're inviting a stranger to the ritual, I have a feeling that they don't. At least not for this esbat.

Go with an open mind. You may learn something new, or you may learn that it's not a path that interests you at all. If nothing else, you'll have learned something you didn't know about before, and knowledge is always good.

Ask your friend afterwards what it is that attracted him to Wicca, and see what he says.

Bright blessings,
Tirya

We go out and go "Oooh, look - a full moon" :o)

Seriously, I guess there are some things that some wiccans do at the full moon - I can't tell you what your friend does, as in many regards, each wiccan performs the rituals that are most important to themselves, but it could be something to do with honouring the great wheel - the wheel of the year, the natural cycle of life, the sacred feminine in nature - moons have always had a big connection to tides and to women. It's been a while since I observed any moon rituals, so excuse me, fellow wiccans if I get this wrong, but I think the full moon is associated with the Mother, so maybe he's gonna give thanks for his birth, or even rebirth into the Wiccan way?
Probably nothing more than a prayer, an offering (DON'T PANIC! Just some fruit or something probably), and a little contemplation of the moon in its fullest beauty. Go, enjoy, experience whatever you do.

Blessed be.

Thanks for opening your mind

anyway the person above me- LARRY S -has issues, to me if you give that much energy to merely a belief you are waasting time thus wasting your life away.

They usually, get everyone in a circle, outside. Then a circle is cast, usually by a "leader" or peerson designated to do so, and once this happens none ccan enter or exit the circle. They you just kind of stand there and meditate and stuff. They light candles a0nd sometimes dance and stuff. If there is something that needs to be accomplished, such as a handfasting or marriage, that is done, etc. They probably have some sort of "prayer" specifically for the full moon, etc. After that the circle is broken and you usually enjoy food and drink.

I attended a few of these gatherings, I used to work for someone who was wiccan and we made wiccan candles in a factory.

Nothing weird, although some sects pervert the religion (like all religions) and they get naked, or have sex in groups, but I doubt that is what you are getting into.

First of all, it is most of the time greater that you just did not attempt to do a ritual if you were not feeling good. So perhaps reduce your hubby somewhat slack for leaving you to sleep - that can had been what used to be high-quality for you. The gods are right here for you at present similar to they had been the day before today, so do not fear approximately it. Yes, you'll do your ritual this night if you happen to decide on a night time ritual - and sure you'll nonetheless get the entire moon results/power an afternoon or 2 earlier than and after the genuine height of the entire moon - so tonite could be excellent. But of path if you happen to desired you would do it in the course of the day. I did somewhat of each and every for mine truthfully - facet in the course of the day and a facet at night time. Kinda like 2 mini-rituals. This will have to be anything that makes you believe completely happy and cheerful, now not all pressured out over. Relax and revel in! Blessings to your travel.

Wiccan is another form of paganism and may be the one true religion for free thinking people that are tired of all the hype and do as I do stuff that most formal religions spout. The bible thumpers and holier than thous have their place, but pagans rule the night worlds.

To know the secret of the forces of the full moons, one must be initiated into the full inner circle of the one true brotherhood of all men.

It isn't going to be any type of Satanist ritual--remember satan is a christian symbol--but it will be something you will cherish as long as you wish.

Nobody does anything on the full moon. All things, except space exploration, are done on the Earth. Now, if you're asking what Wiccans do DURING a full moon, that's an entirely different question and I can't answer it.

New moon ceremonies having to do with creation, manifestation, birth, and rebirth. The full moon is at the other end of circle as it completes the cycle, it symbolizes the end chapter. This is the time of the month that rituals are done in releasing or purging the things in our lives that no longer serve us such as addictions to food, drugs, or sex, relinguishing suffering involved in hurtful relationships, discharging physical and emotional pains, etc. Not too long ago I was watching an episode of "Party of Five" where Charlie was throwing personal items that were in anyhow involved in his cancer into a bonfire. His actions were in celebration of his cancer going into remission. He even tossed the shirt he was wearing into the fire because it was the shirt he wore when he was first diagnosed with cancer, or was it his pants? Anyway, this televised scene could have easily been portrayed as a full moon ceremony.

Full moon ceremonies I have participated in have been pretty simple, with perhaps a pinch or two of pagan tradition thrown in.

Each person in the circle takes his/her turn throwing in scraps of paper into a fire that is then watched turn into ashes. The scraps of paper have words written down on them of those things we were releasing or vowing to change in our lives. Yes, a full moon ceremony can be as simple as that.

But I'd suggested you stay away. The moon is not your mother.

Can't speak from experience, except hearsay from a few Wiccan friends I have. Typically their rituals can consist of anything from simple prayers or meditation and cake/mead (read: free food!) to astral projection to dancing skyclad. (Yes, they do do some things in the buff.) It depends on what sort of Wicca he practices and the type of coven, if any, he has joined.

its not all about sex for goddess's sake!!! i do a SOLITARY full moon ritual, and it entails spellwork and prayer... spellwork is really active worship or taking part in your prayer. You might feel strange leaving there, but consider it an honor you are invited. Obviously you are completely trusted, because any negative energy would corrupt the ritual.

With a little luck, it'll be a bizarre sex ritual.
