Can anyone tell me how many Lira (new currency) to get from the airport to Armada Hotel (Sultanmet sp?). What is the equivalent in USD? We are leaving for Istanbul in October. I'm planning to convert $200 USD into Turkish Lira for odds and ends. Larger charges (Hotel, meals) will go on US credit card.

I would recommend you to check with Armada Hotel if they have a shuttle bus or not. If yes, easiest thing to reserve for it. Regarding the taxi fares, all the taxies have meter, it costs something like 10-12 USD (16 - 19 YTL) to Armada. It is better to write on a piece of paper and show it to him ''Sahil yolundan Sultanahmet Armada Hotel'' means ''Sultanahmet Armada Hotel by taking the seashore way'' which is the best way to take. By the way Armada is a very good choice, hope you have great time in Istanbul.

No more than $30 USD including tip. You're actually better off booking a limo (car and driver) in advance. Prices are cheap in Turkey so the limo will cost as much or less than the cab and it'll be nicer.

It shouldn't be more than 25USD to the hotel, unless you are being ripped off. check with your hotel before you think about getting a cab--many hotels will pick you up free of charge. If they don't, consider a different hotel. When I was booking hotels last month, hotels offer freebies to get your business.

I don't remember it being too expensive to get to anywhere. I think with the cabs though you should always make sure that you get into a cab with a meter and that they don't try and run you all over town.
