Doesn't the bible say that we should not worship any graven image. Isn't it a graven image of Jesus staked to the crucifix? Wouldn't that mean every christian has broken one of the ten commandments, sinned, and is going to hell?

First the definition of Worship is: The reverent love and devotion accorded a deity, an idol, or a sacred object.

So, Whether it be a plain crucifix or Jesus staked to said crucifix you still worship it. If you have a crucifix in your home, your church or around your neck. Whether you are showing rememberence or love, it's still a form of worship whether you are christian, catholic, protestant, or baptist. If you actually follow the teachings of the bible then you all have sinned. If you are a true christian you should repent your sins instead of trying to justify them.

Oh and by the way I never said I wasn't christian. I HAVE read the bibile and it was a question of thought not of insult.

For those who think I am judging I am not. I am asking a legitimate question. For all of you that called me ignorant or other choice words you are the only ones judging here. Another sin.

Christians have definitely broken ALL the commandments in one way or another and stand before God on tons and tons of amazing grace!!!! Halelluia!!!!

personally I prefer the simpler types of worship, and I personnally like to avoid over embellishments like icons and crucifixes and statues. I would not use the word idols or graven images since the images are often images from the gospels and not from the imagination of men.

I think mainly Catholics use the crucifix as you mention, protestants generally use a more abstract cross and some like Brethren do not even use a cross but only bible verses

in my church there is the outline of a cross lifted out of bricks, where the bricks are pulled a little out to barely see the outline of a cross on the wall

worshiping Jesus is another issue... if Jesus is God made man, fully God and fully man... then sure... worshippping Jesus is spot on!!!! and in fact I think the best interpreation is exactly that

And doesn't the bible say "AN EYE FOR AN EYE AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH," as well as "TURN THE OTHER CHEEK." Which one do you follow? You can't follow both of them.

Your question shows a complete lack of knowledge in the bible, so I understand your desire to ask.

Christians, Catholics included, DO NOT worship images. As it was said in a previous answer crosses, crucifix, stained glass windows, etc. are all art work. They help in reflection, perhaps they assist some in concentration, mostly they are reminders and decoration.

The bible also says "I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE." It says nothing about my image in a window, on a cross, as a statue, etc. is the Resurrection and the life. All Christians know this and a christian would never worship an inanimate object.

I actually don't get the first part about worshiping the graven image.

But what I can answer is-Yes, every Christian has broken at least one of the Ten Commandments and has sinned. I am a Christian and I can say that I have, even though I'm not proud of it. You see, every person in the world, every single person young or old, of any language, in any country, has sinned. And everyone will. God is the only one who has never sinned and never will.

When we do sin, it isn't good or right, but it is natural. What we should do is do our best not to sin, but when we do we should know that we have, and ask God to forgive us.

Hope this kind of helps.

Well, I'm not into the Jesus on the cross thing, b/c for one, he died on a torture stake. And yes, we should not worship any graven image, but, if we sin against God and do not follow any of the Ten Commandments, we are not gonna go to hell. The Bible says that we came from the dust and to dust we will return. It's up to us to pray, repent, and turn around from our bad ways. I hope that I answered your question.

Actually cathlics do worship jesus and so do us christians.
He died for our sins.Gave us a second chance out of life.
He is the son of God but actually is the Father you know God
but he had to make himself human because humans were the only one who had sinned.
A graven image is like budda and stuff like that and you arent suppose to like worship the cross but actually you are to worship jesus as our Lord not like the image of the cross.
Alot of christians are going to hell but thats not for us to judge.
Jesus Christ is coming back soon so you better get ready.
Get into your bible and know this stuff
You dont want to be here when the rapture come and the torture the non belivers will put the left behind through...

As a Chirstian I do not worship Christ on the cross. For he is no longer on the cross he was intombed and rose from the dead on the third day. Most Christians know this some have yet to realize.
I do not worship the empty cross either, but the symbol of the cross does represent the act of God's supreme sacrafice of his only Son so that I might be saved. For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, and who so ever believeth in Him shall not perish but have ever lasting life.

Yes, I agree with many of the others who answered before me. Christians & Catholics do NOT worship anything other than GOD (The Father, Son & Holy Spirit) We have the image of Jesus on the cross as a reminder that he died for our sins. It is also a misconception that we worship the Virgin Mary. When someone prays for guidance from a saint or holy person it is similar to a child seeking guidance from his Father or Mother.

Hello motherlandpr... :)

I do not worship Jesus on the cross..for He is risen..and not on the cross any longer..Amen!!

Yes, if one was to worship Jesus (crucifix) then yes, it would be a graven image..not all churches have Jesus on the cross..our church just has a cross to remind us of all the pain and suffering that He had to go through..and the Great Love He has for us, to shed His blood for the atonement for our sins..

It is a reminder to us..not something we worship.. :)

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ..

Geez, I'm not even christian and I know this one. You aren't worshipping a cross. The cross or crusifix is supposed to serve as a reminder that Christ died for your sins. You are worshiping God, not artwork. The images that fill the church are just art, something to look at so you don't completely space out while your preacher is talking.

Catholics worship him on the cross; I don't know if they worship the cross or not. Protestants [and this was one of the big reasons for splitting with the catholic church] Protestants do *not* worship any kind of graven image; not even images of the Lord or Christ.
