We have a 5 month old girl kitty and she has been with us for 3 months. We took in a 5 month old boy kitty, that a friend no longer could keep. He is a doll!! So sweet & adorable, our girl kitty wants nothing at all to do with him, she hisses at everything and will only stay in the kitchen. He hasn't come in there yet, she is hiding behind our GSD, who actually is okay with the kitty and the new kitty is okay with him. So is this normal? I brought her into my bedroom and she hissed & hissed and ran on top of the dresser and just sat there watching for him...

He is going to get fixed next tuesday, she already is. And we brough him home on Saturday. I have him in a room by himself while I am not there. She is social and very cuddle and playful but just hisses and sits pretty much since he come home. I am hoping that she gets over it soon. We got him so she would have a friend :)

It's perfecly normal - and she will probably also not like you for the next few days. She may not want to be picked up or held for a while, as you are the 'traitor' who brought this imposter into her territory! Don't force them! To make the transition easier, try to keep him out of her sleeping place, if she normally sleeps with you, then he must be closed up in another room when it's bedtime. This helps her feel like she's still got her own space, and that you love her the most! I've also found that a really good way of making them friends is to restrict food to her a little. I'm not saying starve the poor baby, but if you normally have pellets out and you feed her breakfast and dinner, take the pellets away during the day, and when it's mealtime, have them both in the kitchen, at opposite ends of the room to eat. This will help her associate his presence with something good! (plus she's less likely to react negatively to him, coz her little furry tummy will be HUNGRY!) Each mealtime, move their bowls closer together until they are eating side by side. Then put out the pellets again!
I got a 9month old girl from the SPCA last week Monday, and her and my resident boy (7months) are already eating from the SAME bowl! Only 8 days later!
Also, be sure not to shout at her if she spits and hisses, because then there will be a negative association with him, rather try and distract her with a kitty treat or a toy!

I had the same problem...other than time, 1 way to make it easier is to keep him in 1 room for a day or 2 and her in another, and then switch them. Cats like to investigate things, but not when the things are right there! So, they will be able to smell all about each other without the other one interrupting. Have to tell you though, my girl cat still isn't keen on the boy cat, although she will play with him. Just don't force it, they will work out their own patterns and territories and habits even though they are not group animals. That garage person is incorrect I believe, I'm on my 12th & 13th cats over the last 25 years. Good luck!

this would variety critically as each and every cat has its very own character. Ive had some cats not at all somewhat slot in and others that have been pleased with a clean cat in each and every week or so. be helpful to offer the known cat lots or affection and dont scold it too problematic for attempting to maintain its place contained in the domicile because of the fact the only cat. with a bit of luck time will help out. in case you reside the place there's a Petsmart shop you may ask somebody there in the event that they be conscious of the thank you to assist this subject. additionally i consistently bathed the recent kitten so it lost a number of its different cat heady scent.

I have 2 cats and one lives permanently in the garage because she is unsociable with the other cat! He tries to sniff her and be nice to her but she hisses at him and then they fight! My cat was just born with a unsociable personality, she likes neither other cats or humans! Hopefully your kittys will learn to get along with each other!

That is very normal. Your cat is letting the newcomer know who is the Alpha. I brought a new cat in last year and the same thing happened. Now they are doing fine.

yeah. she prolly just dont like him at all. eother she will get used to him or always hate him. but yeah just dont put them right next to each other. cuz they might get into a fight and u might be in the middle of it. if they go to each other on there own then let it go. but lyk i said dont hold them therer next to each other or lock them in a room together. cuz then u might find a dead kitty cat. srry not trying to scare u. just some helpfull advice. i had cats like that to. it all worked out in the end. :)

Totally cat behavior! I have had cats all of my adult life, (I love them) And every time I bring in a new one this very thing happens. It will take some time for them to live with each other peacefully, and remember that cats hate change!

They need a little more time. You didn't say how long you've had the new cat, but they are young. Are they both neutered? That might be a problem if they get along TOO well, LOL.
