Unfortunately, until alternative modes of transportation are available people will continue to make sacrifices in order to maintain a decent life. It is sad though that somewhere in America, a kid's parent can not afford to send him/her to summer camp anymore because of Exxon's $10 billion profit.....This is why the Gov needs to step in to limit a companies profit margin in a commodity such as petrol.
btw...Roch Chalk Jayhawk...This is the year, I really think so (although I have said that for the last 10 yrs too!!).

It's too expensive for me to justify right now. I live in Northern California, and the gas here is $3.49 a gallon. I drive to work, to the store, and that's about it.
There will always be people who are willing to pay for it no matter how rediculous the price gets. Like cigaretts. In some places, cigaretts have gotton as high as $6.00 a pack. Of course that's in a large grocery store, but $6.00? I'm glad I don't smoke. Now that people are smoking less, the price is coming down.
I wish people could understand that this would happen to gasoline if we just cut back dramatically on our consumption.
Most of our oil refineries are here in California, yet we have just about the highest gas prices in the U.S.
As long as there are people who are willing to pay the price, there are gougers who will keep raising it.

Unfortunately due to our society's dependency on gas I'm not sure if there will ever be a limit to what people will spend on gas. Right now in Maine its averaging $3.05 a gallon, and apparently going up more. I've heard that in other parts of the world gas prices are twice that.

I think it is an individual decision. Some people have been making efforts to cut back. I have a bit. But a person that has to drive 20 or more miles to work every day, (no bus or train routes) doesn't have much of a choice.

About 3 years ago we hit that price.
And Hybrids are not the answer they create Ozone...anything electric does, but people still buy into the hype.
Less tax is the answer & stip adding all the "environmentally safe " crap...they found it was worse in Cali....lucky me.

$4/gallon. I'll need to make some serious changes to my routine. It already costs me $40 to fill my little cavalier. At $4/gallon that will put me over $50/week for my little car. It's outrageous already. Pretty soon I'll have to petition for a cost of living wage increase or something!

$4.00 a gallon, which seems to be right around the corner. Heck, the bus is cheaper.
