Of course, I do think people should come here legally. On the other hand, I ask myself, "if I lived in Mexico and couldn't support my children and lived in poverty would I cross the border to work in the US?" And, I think I would.
I think the immigration issue has been blown out of proportion. People act like illegal immigrants come here and use up our resources when they actually contribute quite a lot. It's a myth that they come here and collect welfare (from my personal experience with the immigrant population); most people are too afraid of being "found out" as illegal and avoid any involvement with the government. They don't collect welfare; use medical care as little as possible (and when they do, they usually pay cash) and since they often have illegal social security cards, they actually pay into social security and then never collect upon it.

I have no hostility towards them personally. They are hardworking people who just dream of a better life...
On the other hand, they set a lower standard for pay in the American Economy. When they are willing to do a job for $5.15 an hour compared to $8 to $10 per hour, that's ruining it for those that are here legally, those who are citizens but cannot find a job because they are all filled with illegal immigrants.
Did the crime rate go up? You bet, but that comes with society when you have over 12 million more people here, it's just common sense.
And furthermore, welfare handouts DO affect me personally. I pay thousands upon thousands of tax dollars only to have another person live off of the dollars I pay, when they aren't even here legally.
That's why most people gripe about illegal immigration. Sounds to me like your young still. I'm still young too, only 21 but once you work full-time and pay everything on your own, you'll see our point on why we don't like this.

How many times can I explain this? Why don't people like you listen instead of ignoring my reasons and calling me a racist? They have brought wages around here down dramatically. Jobs that used to start out at $7-8.00 an hour now start at $5.50. Other jobs that used to start at $12-14.00 an hour start at $8.00. The factory bosses send people to the border to get workers instead of hiring citizens who apply. Knowing Spanish is often a requirement that we didn't have 15 years ago. Which wouldn't be so bad, but tell me why there are free classes for them to learn English but we have to pay the local college if we want to learn Spanish! Our schools are overcrowded by the children of illegals and we've had to build more. These kids require so much special attention that my kids are not a priority for the teachers. Our jails have become so overcrowded by illegals who commit other crimes that we've had to build new ones. Do you think this costs us nothing? Never mind the fact that it isn't safe to be out alone here now. You should also try to find a place to live around here--illegals are given priority at most apartments, especially low income places. I was nearly homeless once and when I tried to apply at the apartments where I grew up they told me they only rent to Mexicans to keep down problems between neighbors. I believe that the only reason you don't hear about homeless illegals is that invaded cities make it a priority to see that they are housed first. Illegals have plenty of help in my town too, with education, housing, job placement, learning English, etc. There is no similar help available for citizens, yet everyone wants to call them lazy if they can't do on their own what is spoon fed to illegals. So that is part of what these people are doing to me personally, with the help of my own government. I wouldn't mind the illegals quite as much, though, if they weren't laughing and smacking their lips for more and feeling entitled.

Yes it does impact me personally. I used to make very good money as a construction worker until my employer told me I would have to quit or except the same pay lower than minimum wage as the rest of the workers who were in the contry illegally.
I had to scrape money together to send my child to a private school because the local schools dropped their science program so they could hire more teachers who spoke Spanish.
The Emergency Room at the closest hospital to me shut down. The could no longer afford to operate as most of their patients were illegal immigrant who had no insurance and unable to pay for treatment.
I came to the United States legally. I did my best to learn and study English. I took my citizenship test and became a citizen. I work hard and pay my taxes. It hurts me to see others who are too lazy to do the same. It seems that most of the people in the US illegally want only the benefits that come with living in this great country, but none of the responsibility.

Yes it does. My husband works at a hospital and a lot of jobs are being "removed" because of high health care costs and people not being able to afford it. They have no health insurance and therefore, WE pay the price -- we lose medical staff because the hospitals can't afford to pay them because they are taking care of WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE who are not insured.
As far as what do I care about them sending money to their people in Mexico? That's all fine and good BUT they don't pay income taxes. SOOO much money comes out of my paycheck every week for income taxes. They get to keep their entire check. Okay - great -- and they are also using our roads and all that OUR taxes pay for. It truly IS a big deal what is happening. You evidently aren't seeing the big picture. I'm going to say this again (as I have before on here) -- I had two kids that I raised. BOTH of my children were planned. Now, with all of the illegal immigrants here not paying taxes, etc., WE HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM (and the ones making very little money -- they get extra help) -- if 12 more kids had shown up at my door and said "oh we are here to stay too and you now need to take us in as your family and feed, clothe us" -- we would NOT have been able to do that. The USA is in bad shape regarding the deficit right now -- we are not a "wealthy" country by any means and yet now we are expected to take on a whole lot more people - - give them medical care, etc. when we can't take care of our own people right now.

I agree these people are just hard working citizens that have had to make a living in another country, some legally and others illegally. Like in every family across the world there is that one bad seed that stands out like a sore thumb, and like many people we are all quick to take advantage of some ones miss fortune and condemn them for it. Without even taking the time to understand what is really happening. I bet the majority of the people in here complaining about the illegals have never really sat down and tried to make sense of whats happening in their countries. We were all born in a country where terrorism, bad government,be headings are not an everyday thing, so we have no clue as to what it is like to live in those countries. Yet because they came here illegally to try and get away from all the violence and torment, we judge them. What happened to the land of milk and honey, does the declaration of independence and the statue of liberty mean nothing anymore? Are the words of our Forefathers just that...Words? Who gave us the right to say illegals should not be here,? for if it wasn't for them...Where would America be now.?
There are a few peeps in this forum that really have issues that need dealing with. I Say to them...Deal with your issues first, before trying to deal with some one Else's problems. You are no better than the rest of us.

We own a roofing company, and where we live illegals will go to construction sites by 10 or 20's and gang up on the legals and attach them. They take our jobs, bid jobs so low no one else can afford to do them, they dont pay taxes. Our coountry needs that money.Let them send that money they earn to mexico but make them pay the taxes on it.Have you ever seen a house that the illegals rented out after they left it..they move in 100 mexicans in it and dont even pay rent and the trash the place. If they want to >live here then let them go about it the right way like our ancesters did. Go through all the red tape its only fare. They dont want to be here they just want the money to take it back. They are very disrespectful to the americans. I think you need to open your eyes a little wider to whats going on around you.So yes it affects all of us, every single day i worry if a gang of mexicans are going to go up on my husbands job sight and attach his people there are not enough of them to defend there selves and yes, my husbands crew do carry guns for this one reason.
Hey, tex so you mean you are going to sit back and defend the mexicans that rap,rob and murder people and get away with by going back to mexico where they cant be caught.Yes this is the land of the free but you idiot we still have laws to fallow and rules to obay, do these mexicans do this hell no they dont, You must be an illegal your self.Let them come here the right way.I hope they never come to your job sight and attach all the people with bats and sticks and guns because alot of people would get hurt. And you idiot to be a citizen of the united states of america you have to be legal. They are not citizens..

They pay no taxes, use all the benefit my tax money pays for. Get government aid, like food stamps, free health care. They go to hospitals that must treat them and the illegals never pay for the care. The public schools are having to accommodate the illegals in many different ways. The illegals do not buy auto insurance so if one of the illegals hit you with their car then what will you do? I am sure other people will add other cases where they are draining our society.

I don't know if it has so much to do with HOW they live, as much as the fact that they are here illegally. You're right, there are stereotypes about immigrants - some are true, others are not & apply to people in all walks of life. I take illegal immigration very seriously, and it is a personal issue for me. My husband is a LEGAL immigrant. He has now been in the process of obtaining his U.S. citizenship for almost 2 years now, & he still has several years to go before he gains his citizenship. He is going through a trying process in order to live in this country, while illegal immigrants are manipulating & stealing their way here. That is why it is personal to me.

You keep asking this and we keep answering.
Illegal immigration costs us a ton. It has been estimated that as head of a native born family I pay $1,300 more per year just to support education and other services to illegal immigrants.
More importantly to me, the money used on illegal immigrants in school systems where illegal immigrants concentrate, like the LAUSD, where my own children attend, is needed for our own children. Non-English speaking education is such a problem that is has become a fight to get any kind of special education programs funded other than ESL programs - even when the other programs are equally mandated. The test scores and overall education quality has dropped by the overstraining of the services that we pay for to the point that whereever it is remotely affordable, people take children out of the schools and put them in private school. I already am trying to find a way to afford my kids going to high school in a private school, however, things have gotten so bad, I am extremely worried about middle school, as well.
That is another $30,000 per year that I would have to come up with.
It impacts us. The crime demographics for illegal immigrants, since they are unscreened, is also MUCH higher than the per capita crime demographics for the rest of the population. Even leaving that out and assuming the bad sort will be deported, the burden on schools and health care is huge. You can't live in Los Angeles and NOT be impacted by it.
Poor people, even if they pay all applicable taxes simply don't pay that much. They don't begin to pay for their costs in education, health care and other services. That is why our laws limit the number of poor immigrants who can come, to begin with.

Tex, the Statue of Liberty has a poem written by a poet. It doesn't frame our laws any more than any other poem in this country.
The Declaration of Independance is a document of governance of Citizens of this country by citizens of this country, it is not a promise to any foreigners of anything at all.
They need to declare their own independence in their own countries.
