Whatever you hear while you are sleeping goes directly into your subconscious mind. While you may or may not remember it in the daytime, it will still influence your thinking. It is not wise to leave the TV on because programs change, and you do not know what you may be programing into your thoughts. This is particularly true for a child, whose personality is still being molded, and is not yet mature. You are also becoming gradually sleep deprived, since you can not rest as well while your mind is assimilating information.

I think most people just fall asleep with the TV on. They don't mean to sleep with it on all night.

I do have an expensive solution. Get TVs with sleep timers and make them use them. My timer goes for an hour before it turns off. If I am awake, I can just keep resetting the timer.

Good luck to you.

There is no good reason but there is one bad reason why I think u should not sleep with the tv on.
You are in a dream state the last thing u need is the tv telling your brain what to do and what type of dream u should have. Sleep is a way for your brain to shut down and just let it roam not to be manipulated by the stupid box

It's a waste of electricity and thus money...very important.

Also: the continuous noise and light from a running tv will disturb the sleep cycle. So even though they sleep all night they won't get as much rest as they would when sleeping in the quiet darkness.

Well I don't have any room to talk here as I leave mine on 24/7. I can't sleep if it is not on, well I can but I can sleep better with it on.If it is off, I keep waking up all threw the night. I know this sounds crazy, but I feel safer with it on.

When I was living with my ex and my daughter, the TV was never turned off. Now that I live alone, it stays on.

Yes I can, I have read that it can contribute to not having a full nights sleep due to not letting your brain fully turn off (TVs over stimulating, that why we all zone in front of it!). You need a dark, quiet atmosphere for best sleep.

also it wastes electricity and can be a fire hazard. Also studies have linked over watching TV It to ADHD and learning difficulties in children !

subliminal messages my dear. I don't sleep with the tv on because i dont want all that crap in my head as I drift off.

And you do have control over your 12 year old don't you. Take that damn tv out of his room and take control. If people in my house screw up...no tv. It doesn't bother me, im too involved in life to watch.
