I am not a natural blonde but I did have brown hair with tons of blonde highlights in it. I bought some brown hair dye and covered it with no problems. I think it's easier to go from light to dark. Now going from dark to light I don't know. I tried to lighten my hair a week ago. It did get lighter but not by much. I have dark brown hair and I put in an almond blonde. Not much of a difference.
I'm sure you could ask someone that works at a hair place. Or go to a beauty supply store. They will make sure you buy the right products and its cheaper to go that way then to have it done professionaly.
I really don't think you need to bleach or strip your hair.
I used stripper in my hair once. It was a mess! My hair was extremely dry. I mean it was like hay. I got lucky. I put in the hair dye then conditioned it like crazy. I was sure i was going to lose my hair. I don't know if that is what is suposed to happen but it sure did scare me. After it was all said and done my hair was fine. I wouldn't do it again!
I'm sure you can do this in one step.
Good luck

Don't use all that dye and bleach and junky trash! Call me crazy but,... use lemon juice! It will make it a NATURAL blonde. It wouldn't look fake like bleached blondes. Now use the lemon mixture use water and lemon juice( search internet for exact mixture) and take an old toothbrush and add the lemon juice all over your hair instead of just highlights but leave just 2 or 3 little spaces so you will have that totally awesome brown-blonde streaks look! do that everyday for a week when you are done using toothbrush sit in the sun for 15 minutes. Call me crazy but it should totally work. Hope this helps ya!:-)

do you have that backwards?
If you want to go from brunette to blonde in one step it will depend on how dark your hair is and how light a blonde you want to be. If you are light brown you might be able to get a darker blonde by using a light colour.
If you want to be a very light blonde then you will need to lighten your base as the peroxide doesn't have enough lift.
I think you may want to see a hairdresser for this. I have done this at home but I want to discourage you from trying it. It's a long process and can damage your hair.

To go blonde from brunette, you do need to go to the salon. A few years ago I had a great idea to do this, my hair was this terrible orangish color. It depends on your color of brown though. I'm dark brown, so going bleach blonde at home was impossible, pretty much. If you're light brown, you might be able to, but it's best to seek a pro.

Get a high score on your SATs.
Update: unlike the going brunette from blonde treatment, going brunette to blonde requires immersing the subject's head in a solution of Henna rinse and old 'Baywatch' episodes, stirring occasionally until dizziness sets in.

for each 10 volume developer, hair lightens 1 shade.
for instance 20 volume developer lightens 2 shades;
30 volume = 3 shades.
you could go from level 4 to level 8 with 40 volume.
level 4 is almost brunette. level 8 is like a dirty or dark blonde.
ALMOST can do it.
i wouldn't suggest it, only because there is SO much upkeep with it. you will see roots before the day is over.
don't do it yourself. there is a formula hairstylists follow with coloring. not all your hair will lighten evenly and we stylists can get to all the areas better than you can.

Nope, sorry. It takes a lot of steps to go from one extreme to the next. It even takes hair dressers a while to bleach hair, because they have to go through many things to get it the pretty blonde color you want. Go to your hair stylist, don't do it yourself. DIY's are always noticeable and that's something you DON'T want.

you dont have to bleach your hair to go darker so of course. but i recommend using professional haircolor like you find at sally beauty supply you will need to select your color and mostlikely you can use a 10 or 20 volume developer (if you are looking for permanent) and leave it on 25 - 30 min.

Of course not, first they have to take out all the color in your hair and then add the kind of blonde you want.
