Multiply your body weight in pounds times .55 to get the number of ounces you should drink. So if you weigh 100 pounds, you drink 55 ounces; if you weigh 200 you drink 110 ounces, etc.

That figure does not take into account hot summer days when you are sweating alot versus cold winter days when you never sweat - so adjust accordingly for this hot weather.

You don't need to drink 8 glasses (64oz) of water a day. You certainly don't need 1/2 your body weight (in oz.) per day. You don't need ANY arbitrary target amount per day. That's just an old wives' tale that is NOT backed up by any scientific research.
Drink when you're thirsty. Period!

I have to disagree with Mike, who doesn't know what he's talking about and didn't read the references!

I have to disagree with the last answer. you must drink approx. 2-3 litres per day. if you are active then you should be drinking a little more than that a day.
