What should be done to improve the status of Muslim Women ?

Well, for one:
people need to start actually following the Quran and implementing God's laws, not just say they are a muslim country and impose all these harsh rules in His name!
I am a muslim woman living in new york, and the more I learn about my religion and the rights given to women, the more fair and wise God's words seem to me. But those "muslim" countries in the middle east and asia do not actually follow the Quran in their laws.
Also, western media only picks out the bad side of everything, never highlighting the good things and benefits women have in Islam! How about the fact that Islam was the first time a woman had the right to her own property, and her husband couldn't have any part of it. Or the fact that a woman could inherit from her relatives? Or the fact that a woman has the right to ask for a divorce and take her case to court? Or the fact that after the divorce, child custody is not given to the father as westerners probably believe, but the child can decide if it is old enough, or it is up to the courts.
As for how muslim women dress: that is entirely up to us! It is stated in the Quran that women must cover themselves in public so that strange men can not harass them. Why must everyone ask if we are hot in the summer? What about your nuns n the catholic church, or orthodox Jewish males in their suits? Why don't you ask them why they cover and if they're feeling hot? We feel better covered from the sun's hot burning rays (have you ever seen a movie about the dessert? Notice how the natives ALL wear fully covering clothes, including men! It is to protect them from the sun, duh!)

There is improvement required in thinking of muslim men & muslim society. They should think Quran guidelines in the modern sence & try to follow it. All religious books are good but there interpretation should be in line with present time & culture then improvement is possible

Muslim women need to read the section that said God made women as a helpmeet not a slave. They need to take a stand and take control of the situation. I said before and I will say it again the Muslim women, instead of working to support their husbands should start ruling with an iron thumb. The men somehow got things all messed up. They need (the women) to take a firm stand together, with one voice. The women need to shake off the cowering down.

Quit interfering in the mid-east would help tremendously.

Iraq is now under Sharia law with the females in that nation losing many freedoms and rights they had under Saddam. They even got 5 years paid maternity leave until Saddam became buddies with the US. Now they are governed by a theocracy.

THe same with Iran. They were a democracy in the 1950s but the US/UK overthrew that government for oil purposes.

We are best buddies with Saudia and refuse to sanction them for their horrid treatment of females based on our need for oil.

When we quit helping the Robertsons/Falwells of the mid-east gain and keep control, the women will certainly benefit. The West should be quite ashamed of the conditions we created and changed in that area, especially as regards to their females.

Take off those heavy, hot outfits and put on some shorts and and a tee shirt so you don't stand out as being odd. You can believe whatever you want and be comfortable at the same time. No "higher power" cares what your wearing. They care what's in your heart.
