An anagram (Greek ana- = "back" or "again", and graphein = "to write") is a type of word play, the result of rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to produce other words, using all the original letters exactly once. Anagrams are often expressed in the form of an equation, with the equals symbol (=) separating the original subject and the resulting anagram. ‘Earth = heart’ is an example of a simple anagram expressed in that way. In a more advanced, sophisticated form of anagramming, the aim is to ‘discover’ a result that has a linguistic meaning that defines or comments on the original subject in a humorous or ironic way; e.g., Roll in the hay = Thrill a honey (discovered by Tony Crafter). When the subject and the resulting anagram form a complete sentence, a tilde (~) is commonly used instead of an equal sign; e.g., Semolina ~ is no meal.

An anagram is for example, you might have the name "Tim Taylor", if you rearrange the letters of the name, you might get the word "mortality". You might know that the word "mortality" is an anagram for the name "Tim Taylor". Another example goes something like this, if you rearrange the letters of the name "Jill Taylor", you might get the two words "jolly" and "trail" to form the phrase "jolly trail". There is also another example, when you rearrange the letters of the word "heart", you might get the word that is also the name of our planet, "Earth". Very simple as a piece of cake!

# An anagram (Greek ana- = "back" or "again", and graphein = "to write") is the result of permuting the letters of a word or words in such a manner as to produce other words that possess linguistic meaning. The meaning of the new word so created is seen in the context of or in contrast to that of the old word so as to create humorous or interesting associations between the two. Anagrams are a type of word play.

An anagram is a word or sentence that, after the letters are rearranged, spells another word or sentence. For example "Bart" is an anagram for "Brat" (which is how Matt Groening chose the name Bart Simpson).
