I have the same problem trying to watch my extended edition LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring. Some discs are either old or in a certain format and your player simply will not read them. Either get a new DVD or a newer player.

Sad to say I had the same happen a couple of weeks ago. Take the casing off the top of the machine and retrieve your disc. Should be easy to do with some jiggling.
Then junk the machine. it will cost you more to repair than to replace.
If it is still under warranty then you should be covered. If not.... like me - warranty was only 12 months but I got 23 months outta the machine. I was told that was a bargain. I'd got my money's worth. Start again.
So I did.
Know anyone who'd like 5 'home cinema' style speakers but no system??

Try cleaning off the movie, try not to scratch it.
