I'm assunming you mean hyperactive as hypo is the oppostie, meaning lethargy etc.

Rather than vitamins, essential fatty acids can help. These are found in oily fish, nuts, seeds, avocados etc. A fish oil or evening primrose oil supplement can help.
Also eliminate foods which contain chemicals, preservatives, flavourings etc and stick to organic, freshly prepared foods.

Best wishes.

These labels are actually pretty subjective. But if he didn't have the tics until after he started taking meds, it's possible that he doesn't have Tourette's at all, maybe the medication is causing the tics. If his grades went up after getting the ADD meds, that diagnosis is probably accurate but maybe a different medication should be tried to see if he stops having tics. Did you talk to the psychiatrist before taking him off the medication? Was a seizure diagnosed by a medical doctor? I would say stick to the psychiatrist and not worry about the labels given to him by psychologists. It's not unusual for psychologists to give long lists of diagnoses "maybe it's this, maybe it's that"-psychiatrists are more likely to get to the point. Talk to the psychiatrist about your concerns. If he can't seem to help you, find another psychiatrist or go to a pediatric neurologist (medical doctor specializing in the nervous system). I wouldn't bother with the psychologists. The other person said there are "CAT scans that can identify ADHD"--I never heard of that; I don't think there is any such thing.

While there may be, it is a more complex problem than one pill can solve. I have read that ADD and ADHD can be associated with hypoglycemia - a blood sugar imbalance.

There are blood tests a doctor can do to determine if a child has low blood sugar (the 6-hour one is the best), or high insulin - a precursor condition (fasting blood insulin test). If hypoglycemia is part of the problem, then a diet high in protein, with only low glycemic carbohydrates, and "good" fats (monounsaturated) may help to control - not cure - it. Unfortunately, hypoglycemia is a thing to live with - not cure.

My son was hyperactive but not diagnosed as adhd. I was reluctant to take him to the doctor as i didn't want him 'doped up'
I asked for advice in the health food shop ( Holland and Barret) and they recommended starflower oil. Apparently this contains the hormone kids with adhd lack.
I was told it would be around 4 to 6 weeks before a real difference was noticed and i wud need to give him breaks of 1 week every 6 months or so to stop him becoming passive to it.
Within a week i noticed a HUGE difference in his behaviour, his teacher called me into school to ask if he was on medication because he was so much better and concentration levels were up 200 %
You can buy them from most supermarkets for around 99p to £2.99 for a months supply ( much dearer in health food shop)
He had just one capsule a day, in the beginning he could not swallow the capsule but she suggested breaking it and placing it in a drink or on his cerial in the morning, he preferred chewing it and spitting out the capsule when it was empty..so i assume it was tasteless.
He is 15 now and was diagnosed last year with ' mad professor syndrome' a kind of hyperintelligence, hopefully the improvement in his concentration will mean he will excel in his gcse's this year thanks to something as simple as starflower oil
