When I was sent to Riyadh for a month to work with the US Air Force for a joint assignment, I never realized the sights I'd see. One of them was a public stoning.

They gathered around this poor girl for about an hour, throwing rocks at her.

The Air Police security unit that accompnaied me was under Orders to NOT interfere or move forward in convoy until this
insane horror was over so there we stood all engines running...aghast.

I saw a deep hole and a lovely 30 year old lady, tied up from feet to shoulders, to a pole, and lowered alive into this hole, in a standing position. Only her neck and head are visible. And she was stoned for over an hour and died. Rock after rock bloodying her face crxking her nose and the screams! Islam's punishment for an accused adultress.

The troops told me that this WAS NOT some isolated incident and they have witnessed many and are UNDER strict orders to not intervene! This is Islam the religion of peace, mercy and compassion!

For Ms Ludd I am a civilian contractor (Engineer) on my way under escrot to help install and pre-test a CT Scanner purchased by ther US Govt. for use in a remote area when I witnessed this.

American troops are not at liberty to intervene in civil affairs especially if the Arab police stood by to keep order during the stoning!!!! Do you expect American troops to disobey Orders? How Left and or Naive can you be.

I saw her die and they shouted "Allah O Acaba" "God is Great" as they did it. They were MUSLIMS all.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone? I guess in Islam, there are many people without sin capable of casting stones.

No, Islam is not a religion that teaches about compassion - even if they attempted to teach it, instances like this show that there has been failure in this attempt. The fact that people who follow the religion have to keep protesting that they really are a religion of peace indicates to me that their ACTIONS are suggesting otherwise, so they try to make up for it with words. You know what they say, though.... Actions speak louder than words.

But Ludd is right. Many atrocities have taken place under "secular leadership," so what does that say about what secularism teaches? I guess that's a whole other topic, though.

Neeli and Aku: You say that it teaches law and order, but what other lessons does it teach? What about the children that watch such things? They are not just learning about what is unacceptable in their society. They're also learning that violence is the way to solve their problems.

"Desire is natural for men, and that is why Islam allows them to marry of a maximum of four wives." Lesson taught here: Double standards are OK, so long as it is "natural." This is a normal mistake; however, do not confuse "natural" with "right." I believe unrestrained violence and unrestrained sexual promiscuity are natural, but that does not make such acts right. If we are calling for restraint of women's sexual desires, call for the restraint of men's sexual desires, too... and that means men should not be allowed to have multiple wives to satisfy their earthly desires.

Well this is Law and Order at its best.
It was not an inhumane act : It was and is an act to restore humanity to humans.
With time and with the Western ideology of life (Religion for convenience) man has become more of an animal : 'Mating' wherever, whenever and with whoever he deems fit. Sex is not scanct any more: Illicit sex is more of a dirty but legal way of pleasing oneself.
Your incident encompassed the stoning of a woman. Men too, who cannot control their desires suffer the same fate. It is a way of punishing them on earth so that the sin may be forgiven in the hereafter. It also sets an example to those who think they can get away with the Islamic Law. Desire is natural for men, and that is why Islam allows them to marry of a maximum of four wives.
You call the punishment of the woman as brutal. How many people should be forgiven in Mercy? Will there be any Law then?
Moreover, Nature itself is punishing us : and together with it some innocent also die. Yes, I am talking about AIDS and STDs. AIDS affects those who have illicit sex and also affects other innocent groups and children who have blood contact with the affected. Over to you now, Which punishment is more sensitive?
Brother, We now live in a morally corrupt society, Where the body is just a tool to gain pleasure and money. Look beyond the horizon ; think deep of the effects of adulteration and the best way of controlling it - then you tell me if Islam is not justified in the Laws it has put in place.

Lookscared lady,
These kind of punishments are ordered in Islam just for the sake of majority of people to get lesson and try to avoid from these kind of severe sins,
Do u never watch the persons who were hanged because of smmuggeling of norcotics or these kind of other crimes.
As well as there is also a punishment to cut hands of the accused of stealing of any thing.
My dear ,these kind of punishments are just the examples for peoples to avoid from sins of severe kinds.
I wish these kind of things could also happen in our country pakistan, which is now on the top list of currupt peoples, and impliment of these kind of punishments could bring justice in our country

If you were so upset, why didn't you disobey your orders and help the woman you were watching getting killed?

Now you're showing your righteous indignation? After the fact?

Bravo, big hero.

And bravo to the US government that sits by and watches and makes friends with people who do this. Then again the US government has unleashed more than a few horrors of it's own.

why you relate that to islam? true that islam is the religion of peace mercy and compassion but the people of islam are to be blamed, they are stupid enough to blatantly follow their evil desire. sometimes cultural practices/beliefs prevail in such country, people are not well educated.

What, just because they actually FOLLOW their religion, instead of only the good parts? Hell, I support that more than most Christians any day.
