Probably you'll be fine! I knew a 50 year old man and a 30 year old female who lost 100 lbs each over the course of a year and they looked fine. They didn't try to lose it all at once and did walking every day to keep the body tone.

So don't try to lose it all at once and walk every day. You'll be fine.

Don't look at celebrities as idols most of them have eating disorders and or plastic surgery the best way to tighten the excess skin due to weight loss is thru sit ups and or some light weights.Surgery is not an option at 16 and would cost the earth anyway. Good luck.

Yes, 16 year old skin is very elastic and full of happy collagens. As long as your getting a healthy supply of vitamins, and are eating a health amount, don't worry about how quickly you lose weight.

In general, light weight woman are recommended to get 1500 calories a day. I would recommend eating at least 800 healthy calories a day (not pepsi and donuts) if your going to diet.

I wonder how tall you are and how much you weigh. Losing 40 pounds can be dangerous - see your doctor and ask her/him to find out your body mass index. You should NOT lose weight beyond your ideal body mass index: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index
If you take celebrities as a role model: Most of them are seriously underweight and suffer from eating disorders - though they won't tell in public + they invest a lot of their money in plastic surgery etc. Eating disorders come quickly and if you develop them at the age of 16 they might stay for a lifetime. I can tell this from my own experience.
If you lose weight too fast you will in any case get stretch marks - so please take it slowly. And go see a doctor - s/he will tell if you have to lose weight, how much and how to do it reasonable and healthy. My sister lost half of her hair when in the end she weighed only 80 pounds (1m 72cm). Don't ever use laxatives, appetite suppressants, or the like: They are perilous and addictive.
Take care of yourself and your body! I wish someone had told me when I was 14!

Depends on everyone skin. I was fat for a while and finally beat the bulge but because my skin stretches easy it doesn't spring back so now I am toning with weights.

Don't lose the weight too fast.

Celebrities get surgery--they can afford it.
