I am sorry to say, but it has not been written off, The best thing to do is to contact Egg, find out who it has it has been passed onto. Contact this agency and make an arrangement to pay. It is too late to stop the default on your file, however this will go about a year after the debt is paid off. If you do not make an arrangement to pay, you may end up with an CCJ (on your file for 6 years) or An Attachment of Earning (then your employer will find at). They may even send the Bailiffs round.

Go to Citizens Advice, they will give any advice you want.

I doubt if they will just write off the debt.

They have either referred it back to Egg under 'Closed Efforts Exhausted or Recommend Legal Action.

Or..

Sometimes they may use extra enforcement, like passed it back to Egg for further action or they are just holding the account to try and contact you again.

Or..

They may have written it off as a bad debt against you and it may affect you for the next 6 years, check your credit file, it will definately be on there as a defaulted debt, its defaulted as soon as its late, not when it goes to the collection company.

This is dangerous. They could be letting you miss your payments, and the bill is mounting. As well as default charges etc, they are marking your Credit ~Rating as defaulted on payment. This could cause problems if you need to get future credit.

Contact Egg ASAP and get them to clarify what the position is, and pay back anything you owe. You will regret it if you don't. If you can't pay it off, you have just stolen money from them, and why the hell did you buy things you could not afford?

Contact your local citizens advice bureau asap, give them all the details of the last correspondents you had from egg (Letters and emails) and they will act on your behalf, good luck :)

Debts like this can resurface at any time... so be prepared to receive another letter in the future.
