And I don't want to hear the obvious "putting something back" or "helping the community" lies. Truthfully... Is it the the uniform? The desire to wield power over others? Or maybe the chance to assault people legally? Could someone please le me know.

People join the police for different reasons and every police officer has his/her own reason they end up as Government dogs that are used to bark at everybody. Due to the rules and laws that make everybody a criminal - they can find an excuse to lock anyone of us up and when there is no evidence they make it up or plant it - its true. In the UK they shot the Brazilian electrician cold blooded murder and got away with it - they themselves are obviously above the Law when the Government wants them to be. Anyone that works for the Government is not worth talking to and should be sent to Coventry. The police may think they are just ordinary folk but they are spies on the masses and are hardly ever there to help innocent people until they pick up their cold dead bodies off the floor and then investigate and put the wrong person in jail due to having too few grey cells in their piggy heads. Every police officer is a piggy wiggy that stinks up society with their attitude to youth and their incompetence - they are supposed to serve and protect the citizens but they really serve themselves and protect killers like BUSH and BLAIR. Don't tell me you coppers are there for the good of the citizens you are there to harass and lock up people for smoking pot and trivial things like that while the ruling classes use us as slaves and keep us in Ghettos. Stuff you coppers I'd rather have a model 500 magnum revolver SMITH & WESSON to serve and protect me than any stinking copper!

I nearly joined because I didn't want to do a desk job. I did work experience with them and did something different everyday. As it is I joined the army instead.

I must ask if you are British or american because from what I gather, as with the armed forces, they act differently depending on where you come from. Howeer, I am sure there are guys who get a kick out of holding guns and bossing people around but I am far more see it as a profesional job and take it seriously. People who don't like this are like kids who resent their parents when they go told off for doing something naughty.

Oh and assault is assault. Nothing legal about it. IF a police officer assaults you, then they themselves come under the law.

I joined the police because that's what I always wanted to do...and pity there are so many mindless peeps out there. I don't have power over everyone else....it's definitely NOT the uniform..who the hell wants to wear socks AND boots during a hot summer!!! I can use self defence..but I sure can't assault peeps.....anyway..wouldn't put my pension on the line for toe-rags!!!

I don't carry a gun.....so that's a myth....and I don't have a wife...some of us do have husbands!!!

You'll want my help before I'll want yours..lol

So why are u narrow minded...it's just a frigging job....and it's hard enough with all the politics without ignorance from peeps who really ain't got a clue what it's all about. If you have dealings with one bad cop...doesn't mean to say they're all like that...we're all individuals...live in houses....have husbands/wives, kids......I do the job as I love and enjoy it!!...oh yeah..and I get to retire at 50 with an awesome pension!! lol

Imagine this country without police.
The police do NOT have power over others in the way people think. Their power is soley to uphold the law.
GRANTED there are some morons in the force but thats the same in any job.
The thing is, these morons come acropper when they are faced with people that are not afraid to speak their rights.
But the idiots are a small minority in the force and many DO join because they believe their countries laws should be upheld.
As I say, imagine the country with NO police!

Cops have a Great job.Cruising around town all day listening to thier favorite radio station.Stop by and check out family and friends.Pull off in a parking lot with another officer and burn a big fat one, maybe do a line or two. He*l, its great. They dont even have to buy the drugs they are doing, they just confiscate them off the honest people that had to work to buy them. They will take hand guns, laptops, and anything else they want. You cant do any thing about it.A cop will lie in a heartbeat, the judical is on his side,a citizen is just fu*ked.
You will hear a lot of b/sh about them risking their life, fighting crime, standing in the face of danger; BULLSH*T ,they have a hand gun on thier side and a shot gun in the trunk.A radio to call an army at the first sign of danger.
It is a GREAT job.The only thing is you have to have very low moral standards. Most people has respect for themselves and refuse to stoop so low as to become a cop.

They join because they want to do something in the world to make a difference. They are the people that help when noone else wants to get involved. Why do people call he police in an emergencey if they dont rate them...... because they want someone else to face the physical danger or verbal insults.#
Its not an easy job, the hours are long and he pay isnt great for what they have to face.
Lets remember many police officers have lost their lives to protect the people.

I joined the police(I am female and small),It was not about wielding power or fighting(I have never had a physical fight),Granted my hubby likes the unifrom but the situations you encouter are amazing and rewarding.EG We talked a man out of killing himself and I helped a mentally disabled girl who was walking down a country lane barefoot in the middle of the night in winter get home safley to her family, these are two tiny examples of the kind of jobs officers do,You obviously watch to much telly if you think its all about power and fighting.
And which ever idiot said its because we get to carry guns needs to get an education,I have never held a gun in my life!

Power! Dough nuts! Power Dough nuts?
Police are important to our society and to our safety and well-being.
God bless them all.
There are some folks that do crave the power and control. I think you can tell which ones these are.
But for the most part, it's a good and honorably profession. It's also a perfect transition from military duty, which can be unfortunate.

People do want to join the polie to help their local community - why does it always have to be the dark reasons that people like you focus on where a very small minority of people who join the police would do so for bad reasons.

Do you just want to read negative comments? Some join because they like the power. Some join because they want to uphold the law. Some join because it's a job they feel they are suited for.
