Some viruses and trojans can affect antivirus programs. As far as Norton goes, this error is typically due to corruption in the database files it maintains, and is normally fixed by reinstalling or upgrading the antivirus software, this is the solution they told me once before for a customer. It is also one of the reasons I dont use or recommend Norton software for ANYTHING. I am not sure about the Yahoo anti spyware, but it could be related. I dont use the Yahoo software beyond the IM client, and it is slowly getting as bad as everything else they put out in MY opinion.

I would recommend that you can either reinstall Norton, or upgrade it (typically costs $$ to upgrade it) or go with McAfee, might be cheaper to buy it, instead of upgrading Norton Or or one of the free antivirus applications as well. You can also install the personal version of adaware for free and let it check your computer for any spyware as well.

You can also download the McAfee superdat, and extract it, and reboot the pc into safe mode and use it to scan your computer, without installing McAfee. This would allow you to at least determine IF there is a virus on the computer as well. Just one more thing you can do with McAfee's product that I have never seen done with Norton.

Some viruses try to disable to virus scanner. Not sure if this is a virus or just a corrupt file in the software. Recommend that you try running one of the free online virus scanners. Have not used, but been told the pandasoftware.com and housecall.antivirus.com are both good ones. If it is a virus, hopefully they will find and clean. If not, you may need to reinstall the norton software.

Hmmm...I am not a Norton fan, but any virus can cause unstable problems. I suggest uninstalling Norton, and reinstalling, hopefully, from a disc. I also suggest, running Stop Sign or some other free online virus checker, too.

Never just delete programs, they must be uninstalled. I would also suggest downloading Firefox, and uninstalling anything Yahoo, IE, Netscape, then reinstalling.

I feel your frustration.

Sounds like you may have a virus...

DO all the normal stuff (boot the virus scan software from the CD)... also try re-instoring Norton.

Good luck

well yeah honey they very well do .. they can block the Antivirus main executable to stop running and disable the updates so the antivirus cant update to check the virus/trojans that have come in..

they can even stop u from goin to the antivirus main webpage!

well firstly check for them online if possible.. install a diffrent antivirus..try www.grisoft.com for AVG and then scan the system ..unload the previous versions if any ..

altho try reinstallin the antivirus again ..might help!
Happy Computing!

Since Norton is a pay-for-use program, they provide technical support. Contact them--they will know what it is and what to do--this is what you pay for.
