The Robinson Curriculum. We use and love it. It costs $195 -- The only other thing to buy is Saxon Math at each level and a good printer. Saxon is available at a discount from the Robinson's and the best printer to get is currently less than $250.
The curriculum is on 22 CD's and is a one-time purchase. It is good for K-12 and can be used for as many children as you have.

Homeschool materials don't have to cost much. We use tons of books from the library to study history, science, and art, but they can also be used for things like grammar (point out different grammatical markings and explain their use). The only thing you will eventually need to buy is a math textbook, but those can be found relatively inexpensively on eBay.
If you are looking for whole curricula (like Bob Jones or A Beka), check eBay or Craig's List (if they have one where you are). There's also a homeschool sale board on VegSource and I've heard of a Homeschool swap website (or maybe a Yahoo! group), but don't remember the exact name right now.
Our local homeschool group has a used curriculum sale every spring, so check with other homeschoolers in your area.

The way my mom would do it is pick and choose from different companies. She would read over the books a little see which one would work the best. The most expensive does not guarantee that it is the best one for your child. You can pick books that cater more to the areas your child may need to improve in. The only time I recommend going to a more set course is when your child enters high-school then a correspondence school is the best so that they can receive an accredited diploma.

Yeah, do it yourself, with no packaged curriculum. Buy school supplies at Target. Order a couple of workbooks from School Specialty Publishing. Check to see if your local school system has an Obsolete Books Warehouse where you can get text books for free.
