Hello there!

Your question is confusing. Are you asking can you use stainless steel wire or aluminium wire, using the *MIG welding process?

First of all MIG welding which is also known as GMAW - Gas Metal Arc Welding used to weld plate - carbon plate - using inert gas e.g Argon, Helium gas. Hence MIG welding is just a welding process. Depends on your parent material, you use stainless steel wires to weld stainless steel item & aluminium wire to weld aluminium item.

However in the market, there is welding eletrode or fluxes that enable you to weld stainless steel & aluminium item together. you want to check out with electrode dealer such as ESAB, Lincoln, Hyflux, Hyundai, e.t.c.

Happy searching!

Most steels can be welded with stainless, however if your project is very big the difference in price between mild steel or low allow steel wire and the stainless may prompt you to buy a small roll of steel wire. If you want to use the stainless, try it out on a sample piece of the steel parent metal.

I don't know if this is the right forum for that kind of question. All I can say is there is a lot of Internet stuff, much of it confusing, that seems to address such issues.

Why don't you ask on a Migwelder forum or ring a dealer who sells the stuff? At least then your answer won't be invented by someone who just wants your 10 points.

But as others have said, I can't imagine how you can weld stainless steel to aluminium directly.

You can not weld stainless steel with aluminum wire.

You can weld stainless steel and aluminum with a mig welder. But not just any mig welder. Aluminum requires a high frequency welder, stainless does not.

I know you can get flux core wire for stainless, I've never heard of it for aluminum. I've used aluminum electrodes with a DC welder but its an ugly weld.

It will not work stainless steel is a hard metal while aluminum is soft. they have different melting temparature so it will just stick the materials togethere but not weld.

I do not think that it will work. I think that if you turn down the welder enough so that you will not totally melt the aluminum away, you will not get a good weld.

yes use ss wire fo ss and alu wire for alu but i have not found a gasless aluminimun wire so guess you have to use gas for that

Not to each other: the melting points are too different. You will need to use a mechanical connection of some sort.

yes you can need to use Argon as shielding gas to weld both
