I found this on the internet:

I really can't pretend to understand this! Beyond the fact that it seems to be some mechanical engineering hardware.

The other thing I'm finding is key rings or key chains with designs of saddles on them or shaped like saddles.

Hang on, this is what Wikipedia says about it in German:
It's a part of a machine in mechanical engineering which connects shaft and hub. There are different types of this part of the machine, and a saddle key is one type. What's special about the saddle key is that it makes do without a nut in the shaft.
