We all know that a great deal of what we call "history" is really a web of lies, especially when it comes to religion. How can we know if any of it is real? What if all the stories are lies? Can anyone direct me to somewhere where I can see some substantial proof?

Atheism is the only logical choice. That is a factual statement.
"History" are the lies told by "winners" and have very little do with reality.

Oh thank you for asking the question I havent been game to ask on here, due to the sledging by all faiths. The answer is NO. No one can 'prove' a thing. Stories have been passed down from generation to generation, kind of like chinese whispers. Apart from the 'you must have faith' thingy, someone give me some solid proof, no one can. Come on there are discrepancies in every story, my favourite one is, Noah had an ark he took two of every species on board, (how big was this ark, think about it), and the world was repopulated out of this???, ever heard of genetic mutation.. try even interbreeding your birds and see how far you get.... show me proof, I mean solid proof, and dont hit me with that faith thing, people have had faith that their parachute will open and I've seen some ugly outcomes of that....

Why did I Embrace Islam?
This is an extract from Dr. Gronier, a French MP, who embraced Islam. Revealing the reason of embracing Islam he said, I read all of the Ayat (Quranic verses), which have a relation to medical, health, and natural sciences that I studied before and have a wide knowledge of. I found that these verses are totally compatible with and give a picture of our modern sciences. Thus, I embraced Islam as it was obvious that Muhammad revealed the Absolute Truth more than a thousand years ago. Had every specialist, artist or scientist compared those Quranic verses to his own specialization, beyond the shadow of doubt he would embrace Islam, especially if he has a sound mentality and goodwill to search for the truth and not a mentally defective person with the intentions of malevolent aims.

You are mixing things up here. Religions are set ritualistic practices and beliefs that are practiced in a given culture to define the tribal cultural for the sake of justification, social moral guidance, and definition of the commonality within that culture. As such they are all "real." What you are asking is for proof that the underlying beliefs are real. No one can give you that. The existence of God/Gods/Goddesses are all subjective to the individual and cannot be defined outside the cultural expression if at all. When it comes to proof, you are on your own.

No, but it keeps the crazies occupied.
I suppose because history has to be written by man there will always be a motive and point of view that will obscure truth by varying degrees. History is always written by the winners...
But c'mon Religion? Its simply a manifestation of hope in people to comfort them. For them no proof is required.... which is good, because there isnt any!

My religion told me the only way to prove the right religion is to find out the content of the holy books. What ever you read from them try to match them with science. Is the science of the holy book is more advance than our technology or is it just a full of craps.
Like me, al-Quran did mentioned science that is beyond our knowledge. Some of them had been proved and some of them remain mystery.

Islam is for real only.You can see the proof in nature itself.It is mentioned in Holy Quran that Trees prostrate infront of Allah and there is a site where you will find it revealed.
A Tree in the posture of a man praying as if a man is praying.You can find other mircles as well.

Religion is fake no doubt. Bug i believe God is real. The only way to prove God is to ask him and see what happens. But ask him out of a sincere heart.

Why do you want to communicate your questions and ideas with others, is the discussion of these points important to you? Isn't that the nature of any religion initially? Some communicators will be genuine, some will lie, others will manipulate and control, that is the nature of man, isn't it divine!

you want to see God move in your life? This is how you do it. Get yourself a new international version bible and go to John and read from John to then of the book, and when you get to acts chap 2 you will see Gods HOLY SPIRIT AND YOU CAN RECEIVE IT INTO YOUR LIFE , That's what your seeking! the bible tells how to get it and what it will do for you! its Gods WORD, and you can test him on it ,once you know it, so you must read it and ask Jesus into your heart and he will send this HOLY SPIRIT AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE TANGIBLE PROOF HE IS REAL!
