That's a great analogy. IMHO not every religion does this. Buddhism tells people to use their own judgment, Hinduism tells people to find their path. Some version of modern Christianity and New Age religions offer many options. All these do some of what you said but it may be necessary to give people some structure so they can worship together since many people like to worship that way. Also some people like to have spiritual guidance and without a structured religion it would be difficult to find an appropriate guide. Some religions seem rather oppressive and yet, some people seem to like it that way. Unfortunately they try to make everybody else do things the same way.
Without religion most people would never conceive of a god. You may think otherwise but you were born in an area that had a certain god concept so that has influenced your interpretations of things. Children grow up with whatever ideas they get exposed to. Until you begin to think for yourself, you just go with the concepts that were planted in your head. If nothing had been planted you may believe in nothing and never care either way, you may conceive of a quick easy answer or you may just keep searching. When someone gets an idea they can't prove they may try to convince others because doing so substitutes as evidence. I think that's how a lot of it gets started.

No one dared so far to claim creating, or being able to create, any single thing, even a hair!! The Creator and The Sustainer of all these Creatures is One only; if there were more than one there would have been confusion in the heavens and the earth! That One is Allah (the only true God).
Can we find an explanation of the great universe? Is there any convincing interpretation of the secret of existence? We realize that no family can function properly without a responsible head, that no city can prosperously exist without sound administration, and that no state can survive without a leader of some kind. We also realize that nothing comes into being on its own. Moreover, we observe that the universe exists and functions in the most orderly manner, and that it has survived for hundreds of thousands of years. Can we, then, say that all this is accidental and haphazard? Can we attribute the existence of man and the whole world to mere chance.
In the world then there must be a Great Force in action to keep everything in order. In the beautiful nature there must be a Great Creator who creates the most charming pieces of art and produces everything for a special purpose in life. The deeply enlightened people recognize this creator and call him Allah 'God'. He is not human because no human can create or make another human. He is not an animal nor is He a plant. He is neither an idol nor is He a statue of any kind because none of these things can make itself or create anything else. He is different from all of these things, because He is the maker and keeper of them all. The maker of anything must be different from and greater than the things which he makes.
Imagine yourself in an aeroplane and you know it is
going to crash...
Who do you turn to for help then ?
Or on a ship in the sea, thrown helplessly up and down
by towering waves ...
There will have been a situation at one time or the
other in your life when you called upon your Creator
alone, forgetting everyone and everything else,
hoping, trusting, wishing that the Being you know in
your heart and soul that has power and control over all
things would help you. The only One you know can
save you!

Because some people want to lead others and some people feel the need to be lead. Very few people are willing to stand alone and question their existence themselves. Those that do stand alone to question it are not going to trust a book written and rewritten by a church for they are going to seek their own answers and make their own book.
We have religion so people can come together to share their ideas of creation, purpose, and thoughts about this life and what follows. It is only natural that those with similar views would group together to explore those ideas together.

GOD is real.He created the World in his own Image. So world is just an Image.Religion is not Christianity or Hinduism or Islam etc. they are sects. Religion is a way of experiencing the Reality. All so called religions have come to us from original Great Masters Who could understand this Truth. but whatever is available to us is a modified version from and by their followers who added or subtracted the original

Yes, as people have said, religion is there to provide a community for people with similar beliefs, and support that they are not alone and thinking in a way that pleases themselves and others.
Religious conflict is awful, but i think many religions and beliefs are possible without wars. The hundus' do a good job of having many beliefs and gods, all tolerated, without war. We can learn from them perhaps.
Bless us all, and lets pray for the blessung of **50 points pleassseeeeeeeee **

You are absolutely right; most of the wars were caused from different religions.
But when you approach this matter from a secular point of view you cannot choose what is the dominant religion that is why religions exist and will continue to exist

Ephesians 4:6
one God.....
Romans 10:2 , 3
For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge;
for, because of not knowing the righteousness of God but seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
Matthew 7:15-17
Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to you in sheep's covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves.
By their fruits you will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they?
Likewise every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit.
2 Peter 2:1
However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among you. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves.
We must do what is good and right in God's eyes. It doesn't work the other way round. For Jehovah God is our Creator, He demands exclusive worship. It's the least we can do to say thank you.
Yahweh (hebrew) - Jehovah (english) - Is almighty God and Creator
Yeshua (hebrew) - Jesus (english) - First begotten son of God.
King James Bible Exodus 6:3
True Christians do not war or is part of the world, they are not part of any political party, nor do they salute any flag. They are persecuted for not being part of such things.
True Christians have no double standards. They worship God to the fullest, in every way, they declare His name, Jehovah, to all. They get rediculed and smirked upon for doing that.
Jesus the son of God were murdered for declaring his Fathers name Jehovah in all the earth.

Religion is a way to reach God and His love.
We all different with different opinions, thats why people had created different ways ( different religions).
Indeed the way is the only one. But not everybody can find it.
