Career Profile: Marine Insurance Surveyor
Marine Surveyors inspect marine vessels and decide whether to provide applicants with marine related insurance coverage. In addition, they survey marine related damage for the purpose of claim verification and processing. Marine insurance has two main categories; inland marine and ocean marine insurance. It is a form of insurance primarily concerned with means of transportation and communication, with goods or cargo in transit and with bridges, tunnels, personal effects, personal property, jewelry, furs, fine arts and other items. Marine Surveyors evaluate an applicant's exposure to risk and decide whether the applicant meets specific insurance standards.

a property inspector. "Marine" just means property that moves around - there is ocean marine, and inland (non-ocean) marine insurance. The surveyor is someone who "checks it out". So a marine insurance surveyor is just a property inspector.
