when you ask a question here why are some peoples answers aggressive, nasty, hurtful or just miss the point as some questions are just plain fun

Because this medium allows people to do things in an anonymous way so that they are less likely to be identified.

Also, because of the points system that is used here, some people just want to get a quick two points and be done with it.

Most questions do have legitimate, thoughtful, truthful, informative answers, but the silly, obnoxious answers outnumber the "real" answers at least 8 to 1.

I'll admit that there are some questions that I've answered just to get an easy 2 points, but most of my answers (90%) are what I know or believe in an effort to get 10 points. Hey, why not go for the gusto? I mean, it's easier to do 1/5 of the "work" and get 5 times the reward than it is to 5 times the "work" and get 1/5 the reward, right?

as for being hurtful or nasty, some people are mean? and that's okay, just ignore them. sometimes people miss the point because they didn't read the question right, especially if it's a very long detailed one. I am guilty of this - some questions are very long and involved! if the question is meant in fun, some people just don't get it. that's about it. don't take any of it personal.

It depends on the question I guess - anything spelt wrong, about religion or just plain stupid is always going to be open to abuse.

It's a shame that some of the funnier ones are taken too seriously though. At the end of the day, don't worry about it - I've had a few abusive e-mails from people but it's them getting wound up, not me

Although sometimes you can see the "fun" in questions and therefore answer them in that manner there are some questions on here that are posted just to be disturbing. Since there are minors on this site reading them we shouldn't be too offensive but we should respond correctly so that the poster is reported/made aware that it is in bad taste to ask that particular type of question.

I try not to judge when I am answering questions but sometimes the questions are just plain sick.

They like to annoy or just gain points for the hell of it, don't let them get to you, the world is full of idiots and unfortunately the ones that answer questions cruelly are living at the side of their computers ready to be cruel as they have nothing better to do.

Depends on one's mood, and how the question strikes us. Sometimes, i find it funny so, so i answer it humoously, or when I'm really in a bad mood. . . i vent my frustrations in answering cynically questions which i think i can do so and get away with it.. Answering makes us somewhat pass the time as we want, and here freedom of expression really has a wide berth, since we can be as anonymous as we like and get away with it. To questioners. . . we knew that we still should use our own discretion or wisdom in believing what we read.

Unfortunately the world is full of people with over inflated egos who think they are the best thing since sliced bread and don't have the intelligence to do anything better with their time.

I think some people just are mean, or want to be in real life but are afraid of what may happen to them if they actually are mean to someone.... here they have the freedom to express themselves.

I know that it is annoying. Just ignore people like that and don't let them keep you from enjoying yahoo answers.
