My father in law has done this before and this is what will happen.
The tires will lock up and you will spin around. Pretty much the car will go in lock down.
My father in law did this by accident, and not for the hell of it.

In a manual shift car, if you shift into reverse while going at any speed, the car will not shift into reverse. Becuz of how the shifting of gears work, the reverse gear cannot engage, so if you try shifting into reverse with a manual, you will just hear REALLY LOUD GRINDING of the gears, and the car will still roll forward. In a automatic transmission, the same will happen, either way, the replacement cost isn't gonna be nice :)

Automatic transmissions are built so they are very difficult to tear up... anything over 10 mph and you shift the lever into reverse, it just goes into neutral...
Manual transmissions: the gears will not let you shift into reverse because everything will be spinning the in forward direction, so you will not be able to get it into reverse.

Standard shift----cannot be done--Automatic----hope you got your seat belt on---it will be like locking up the brakes but when you dont expect it. Depending on how fast your going it will do this untill trannie lets go.Like i said wear your belt and make sure its in good order. (have fun I did)
