Didn't you know? any closed door is a grave insult to a cat. Because cats are permanently and consistently on the wrong side of any closed door.
Human beings were put on this planet with the primary purpose of being dooropeners for cats. Stop fighting your mastercat and do as it tells you immediately and thankfully. Remember: as a reward the cat will allow you to pet it and feed it. You might even get to clean the littertray...ohh joy

I hate to kill the buzz about all the "cats sure have us wrapped around their little paws" fun but is it possible some thing about the cat door pinches or irritates the cat. Go out side some fine day and hold a treat outside the cat door and see if Fluffy will come out the cat door and if it works OK.
I mean sometimes there is a wolf.

Put something that smells delicious, like a little tuna, on the other side of the pet door. Bet he comes through. Problem is every cat in the neighborhood might want to make a dinner party of it. LOL

No. Could be he's used to getting "his way" most of the time? And generally, cats are not like dogs - cats hardly ever seek attention.

Do you know this joke?
A dog thinks: A human is petting me, feeding me, playing with me, it seems that he's a god.
A cat thinks: A human is petting me, feeding me, playing with me, it seems that i'm god.
A cat is a master in one's home. I have a cat too, but he's very huge and heavy, and clever too, so when he was bored of waiting for someone to open teh door for him, he learned how to stand on his back legs and to hang himself on the handle so teh doors open. It's good because you dont have to leave your warm bed when he feels like going out at 6am, at teh other hand, there's no use in closing doors, because they will be open in like 10 mins..

Mine has done that for years, now it insists on having the front door open, it also insists on having the shower door open... it doesn't go in it ... i think he just likes the idea of having more options... i don't know but it's SO annoying!
Good Luck with your patience

My dear sweet cat, who died earlier this year used to climb a tree and yeow at the bathroom window in the middle of the night to be let in. He also expected to be let back out at about 4:30 AM. They can be very persistent.

In this way cats are be just like every other living thing........ They will keep doing something if they know it will get them what they want! Just don't do it and your cat will soon learn that isn't the way to get what it wants. Good luck and be persistent!
