why do people feel the need to double park?

Because they are inconsiderate, and lazy.

The main reason people double park is TO STAY AWAY FROM OTHER CARS, so when someone opens their door, it won't hit their car and cause a scratch. Some are just too lazy to "slowly" go into a space :)

I guess all the people that don't doublepark and criticize others for doing so, have a huge reserve of cash to pay for my car getting repainted when you open your door and ding mine. I usually go to the back of a parking lot and park diagonally so as not to inconvenience everyone else.... I value my investment so I do what I can to preserve it's condition.

Cuz there's no parking!
(Or cuz they think they won't be long, where ever they are going..)

I don't really know. I don't ever double park because I'm scared of getting a ticket. I got one once and i didn't drive for like a month.

I think because he was desperate enough to park his car, lost patience or could be rushing for an appointment

There are several reasons....:

a) speed.. in a hurry to rush in some place and out again
b) there is no parking close by

Because they shouldn't have they're licence and past a test that they would have taught them that it was not what they should be allowed not to do!

Because the law is for everyone...except them. They're special! Hit 'em in the wallet as often as they do it and maybe they'll learn....maybe.....
