Probably around 250 or so. If your transmission is a c6 automatic, (toughest car transmission ever made, in my opinion) it takes around 35 - 40 HP just to operate it. A 400 ford is capable of making some decent horsepower, just not with stock heads and a 2 barrel carb. What the 400 does best is make torque, and lots of it.

You have a easy car to hot rod, a 429-460 will drop right in & bolt up to your transmission, or it could be easily converted to a 4 speed with common junkyard parts and a top loader gearbox. Chances are that it came stock with a 9 inch rear end too.

I'd guess around 200 hp if it is stock. The 400's were from the worst of the smog era. But it's possible to double that with some well chosen mods.

Ok Vegito,
It should have about 250 HP if it's just a normal stock engine. If it's been played with it could easily have 350 horses or more.
