help me. our dog has been really down the last couple of days and last night he was even worse i stayed up with him all night making him drink water because he has been vomiting for 2 days.today we took him to the vet and they said it was probably parvo and gave him a water injection.however this afternoon he threw up blood and it had the most foul smell and it was alot. then tonight he did it again but it came from the other end. no vet is open right now and i really think he is dying, he wont even hold up his own head. what can i do to help him. another thing is my neighbor gave our dog chicken and pork bones three days ago and a phone vet said that it could be stuck in his intestines. can anyone give me some advice on what i can do to help him?

You really really need an emergency vet for this. Call one now, read the rest of my answer later!!

It does sound like parvo and actually I would never have let you take the dog home It should have been in a animalhospital getting fluids intraveneously and antivomiting medicine.
Also because of the bone eating an x-ray exam is needed to see if that is also a problem.
I don't understand why the vet did not make a parvo test to be sure.
Parvo is very transmissible - keep other dogs away and change clothes+ bathe before getting in contact with other dogs.
you did right by trying to get water into him, the dehydration is killing in parvo, you did all you could. Parvo is serious and even with optimal, hospital care not all patients survive.
All that read this, please, please get your dogs vaccinated against parvo

Your dog might have Parvo from what you describe, but he might also have pancreatitis. Third choice would be that he has an intestinal blockage from the bones. All of these things need hospitalization. The fluids your vet gave were in an effort to help with dehydration. Foul smelling vomit is a bad sign, and you may be right that he is dying. Look for an emergency clinic. DON'T force feed water, as it will continue to make him vomit. He needs to be seen as soon as possible. If he is blocked, he needs emergency surgery as the bones can cause damage to the intestines, and left untreated cause tissue death. If he has pancreatitis, he needs to be treated agressively, and if he has parvo, he is highly contagious with a very serious disease.

Good Luck.

It does sound more like parvo and if you have no where to go at least make sure he gets fluids till you can get somewhere. Watch for his gums to turn grey that is a major sign of dehydration and this is how they die from the parvo virus.

I use a syringe and literally shove it down their throat. The vet should have never let him go if he was still regurgitating. He should have been admitted with an IV and preventative antibiotics and metro is good for parvo.

My area has emergency vet clinics for going to when your usual vet is closed. It does cost more, but it was worth it when I had to use it for my cat. They then gave my vet the info. of what they did, and treatment was continued at my regular vet. I think I called my vet's office, anyway and they gave me the number and/or address. I use a different vet for my dog, and they have a phone service, that tells you what to do. Maybe you have this available, too. (A note of hope: My cousin adopted a puppy that turned out to have parvo. They did manage to save it--he's 6, now.)

Sorry hun, but my guess is parvo..Why on earth didnt you vet do a damn parvo test? it takes less than 10 minuts to get the results!

I am sorry but because he is as advanced as he is he is probably dying. I just went through this 2 months ago..

There is still a chance though.. EMAIL me, I will open my email up so hold on a minute while I do.. I will send you an emergency treatment and some other information to help you, help him.. Where do you live?

I can't give any advice, if you can't make it to an emergency vet SOMEWHERE all I can do if wish you the best.
If your dog has Parvo....without vet care he WILL DIE.
There is no pain to compare to watching a beloved pet die and not be able to help.
All you can do is take him to the vet the first thing when they open (if he is still alive) and let them put him to rest.
I know that may sound cruel, but Parvo is a very horrible, painful way for any animal to die.

you need to ring an emergency 24 hour veterinary clinic now! if he had parvo the vet should not of let him go home he should of stayed in the vets and been given more than a water injection!

All my sympathy. vet. shame on him for not testing!!
If it is parvo the virus will live in your house/kennel for a while. The only sure way to kill it is by using straight bleach. Don't bring another dog into the area until it is disinfected or you will have another parvo dog. Bless your heart. *hug*

I'm so sorry to hear this... Check your phone book and online, there's probably an emergency pet clinic somewhere in your area. Try your vet's number as well, some have answering services and can be paged.

ADD: I am so very sorry for your loss
