An immobilized person burns an average of 70 calories per hour.

So in order to survive, I would have to guess 1680 calories.

But I hope you don't plan to do it.

Muscles begin to break down and disappear.

And if you're not filling the body with THE RIGHT calories, you may be doing more harm than good.

Example: A large piece of cake and a coke would probably feed you all the calories you need.

But the body will fall flat.

If you're providing all those calories through fruits and vegetables, the body is most likely to survive longer.

I believe the idea of calory counting is bunkum.
Eat as much as you want, as long as its the right stuff, and that is fruit, vegetables nuts and seeds. Drink lots of water, and if you have a juicer, drink freshly juiced fruit and vegetables. You need to consider why you are bed-ridden, and get over that too, and diet is the answer. Just avoid all unnatural food, and eat as much natural organic fruit and vegetables as you feel like. Your energy levels will increase, and you will be up and about on no time. If you are bed ridden then easily digested food is best, so avoid all meat and animal products.

Depends on the size, weight, gender, age, metabolic rate and ethnicity of the person in question and whether they are bedridden because of an illness that requires an immune response to fight or whether regenerative processes were taking place - among other factors.

It would depend on body weight - the heavier a person is the more basic calories they need to maintain basic bodily functions. For an easy formula on bedrest calories needed, see

It depends on your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR):

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Calculate it and then multiply by 1.2.
(If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2)
