this is my first night with my new puppy. my daughter has a fever and i'm so tired. everyone's sleeping. i tried enclosing him in the laundry room until morning with water, bed, and training paper, but at 4 this morning, he whined soooo loud, i couldn't stand it. but he just wanted some food and a walk outiside. now what? do i put him back in the room and try to sleep? or just let him out til someone goes to work? and if i close him in again, do i just ignore his whines?

It depends on how old he is...It has to be traumatic his first night in a strange house..He needs warmth until he is 12 weeks old, as he can't control his body temerature until that age..I think, that to get any sleep, you will have to let him out, and introduce the room to him more gradually, during daytime...feeding him in there and such..
I hope your daughter recovers quickly!

It's best to start him in a kennel/crate. We put ours in the kennel just before we are going to bed. We talk to him very softly and he has a blanket, bone, and rope just in case he's not tired; turn off all the lights, and leave the room. We keep ours in the living room, that way we can keep our bedroom light on and it won't disturb him. This might take a few nights, but soon you won't have to worry because he will get used to it. The best way to train a dog is to train yourself - be persistent and try to stick to a schedule! The worst part about it is you will have to ignore him. The best way to train a puppy is to ignore the bad behavior (as best you can) and reward the good behavior. In the morning when you let him out - please when the house first starts to stir - tell him good boy and take him outside, cheerfully if possible. Then he will see that sleeping was rewarded, he will want that reaction more often and over time, will learn to sleep. The best medicine for dogs is love! Good luck!!!

I am familiar with this behavior. I used to put an old clock radio in the area with the puppy loud enough to shut out external noises. Preferably talkback radio so he can hear human voices. Four AM is a normal time for them to wake , a small fed a quick game and put him back. let him scream he will soon settle
Do the same thing at the same time each day feeding slepping and game time. When they get older they maintain the same routine. Mt 2 dogs sleep from 11Am to 3 PM then 11 PM to 5;30 when i get up
I do heope this is helpful information

if the puppy is housbroken and you dont mind let it sleep in bed with you... it it isnt thats not a good idea though... The puppy is probably just lonely if its in a room by itself... put some light music on and give the puppy a toy so it has something to play with till it goes to sleep... itll stop whining and itll be ok

When my dog was a puppy I invested in a playpin and he slept in that. It was also good when i needed to run to the sore or whatever, i could ust put him there. That was he's in a space that hes not running loose... but he can see you so he won't wine like he does when he is in the laundry room. Also, this may sound silly, but the breeder for my parents dog suggested putting a clock with a tick tock sound.. that makes the dog think of his moms heat beat and relazes them. Not sure if that works.. but it kind of makes sense. Good Luck!

I had the same problem with my puppy when I first got her. I eventually gave in and let her sleep with me...which she still does to this day. Other people have told me that was the wrong thing to do, and I should have just ignored her and she would eventually stop. I couldn't stand to do that so she's really spoiled now.

puppies/dogs are social animals,,,,they do not enjoy being alone, especially a newly seperated puppy.....if you have a crate, you can put a towel with your smell on in and keep the crate in your room,,,since i am sure that you only want to prevent the little puppy from peeing and running amok....read online about crating,, it is very common and my previous dogs when scolded would high tail it to the crate, of course not all dogs will enjoy the crate,,,as like the one i have now but with treats and kind words eventually the crate is a place of sanctuary for the critters

puppies do that. he will eventually lay down if you cuddle him. if that doesn't work and you want to try enclosing him again give him a blanket the warmth will help him be soothed. and if you have a clock that makes the tick tock noise place that near where you put the blanket. it will trick him enough to calm down as it will sound similar to a heartbeat. puppies sleep all together or near mommy dog so the warmth and heart beat noise is key.

Whereever you want his "bed" to be -- take him there -- cuddle/pet him for a while -- leave something with your scent on it with him. He's a puppy -- so his attention span is short -- so don't expect him to remain there for a real long time. If he goes 4-6 hours -- that's great. Some people put clocks that tic in with pups -- rhythmic and soothing -- or music
