The last 3 answers are full of opinion that aparently disagree with many peoples views. Yet they claim them to be fact. This is the exact reason for debate. They are aparently unaware of other views and current information.

Irreducible complexity...that pretty much ends the ole' evolutionary theory debater right there...

Science and Religion are two manmade concepts that do no mutually exclude each other. The firsts scientists on the planet were all believers..and now the remaining scientists are coming back around to that very same conclusion.

Every commandment ever given by God in the Bible that has not been obeyed has caused serious adverse affects on everyone around the world...yet moral, intellectual, medical, psychological and societial commentarians have concluded that if we were to keep every single law in the Bible including those pesky food laws..there would be little or no illness, desease, social service issues, unwanted pregnancy and etc.

Historical evidence proves that Jesus existed.

God references in our currency and pledge have only to how our nations roots and heritage...no where are we ever given commandments to pay homage to God in these venues. However, when we turned our backs on Him by disallowing prayer in schools and religious classes, meeting and etc..you will notice a rapid decline of values in the public school system.

These are my thoughts in breif but if you would like I would't mind going a few rounds in a debate..however, yahoo email is not the venue of choice...too little room..how 'bout we throw down in a christian community posting message board room I know of? God reveals, man observes.

Everything we know about God was revealed by God. For me that is in the Christian bible which I believe to the word of God as spoken through the prophets. There is not a proof of God's existence in the bible; it is assumed.

Let talk about some reveal knowledge, and then see how this fits in with scientist method (facts to theory).

God (YHWH which means "I am that I am") is spirit (wind).

God existed before and created the heavens and earth. This means God is beyond everything we can observe.

Science has a theory called the big bang. It takes man observations (facts) and tries to explain them. The scientific method is explicit. The facts are made by two or more people independent of location. Facts are not disputed but theories may be changed over time.

The existence of God can not be proved or disproved by the scientific method. Why? Where are the facts dealing with God. There are none, only belief.

Evolution is a scientific theory using the scientific method. Where as Creationism or Intelligent Design are beliefs since they require the existence of God. Einstein stated that there was a divine present in the Universe, but that was Einstein's belief and his fact.

Does God exist? There is no answer to this question because it is assumed in the bible and can not be proven using the scientific method.

Did Jesus Exist? You mean did Jesus live, die, and resurrected? We have no scientific facts either way. However, we do have four accounts, not facts, that tell us about him. We can believe them or not.

In God We Trust on American Currency. First, tell me about the Declaration of Independent: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness". Note the word Creator. Second, tell me about the American Civil Religion. No one is asking you to believe in God, but if one exist (back to the God exist problem), we trust in him/her/it.

Finally, "Under God" in the pledge. In 1924 the oath's wording was changed slightly (the original "my flag" became "the flag of the United States of America" ). Officially recognized by the government in 1942, the pledge became compulsory in some public schools, but the following year the Supreme Court ruled (in West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette) that recitation could not be required of any individual. It continues, however, to be mandatory or recommended in a majority of the states and is a daily fixture in most American classrooms. The final alteration to the pledge occurred in 1954 when, by a joint order of Congress, the words "under God" were inserted. The change is usually ascribed to a cold-war attempt at differentiating the United States from officially atheistic Communist countries. The addition caused little stir when it was enacted, but in 2002 opposition to it resulted in a federal appeals court ruling that the words are unconstitutional because they violate the First Amendment's prohibition against government endorsement of religion. The Supreme Court subsequently overturned the verdict on procedural grounds. Obviously this is another American Civil Religion issue. Going back to an earlier version or keeping it, but this is now a legal issue and frankly a dead issue.

There is no information to be gained. You have two beliefs systems: knowledge that is revealed and knowledge that is observed. God reveals, man observes. By the way, the reveal knowledge can not be debated. Debate is based on the scientific method.

Great. Nice list of hot button issues. BORING.
These are nothing but the smoke and mirror dances that we do to support our political views. We have all had the opportunity to study the history of wars and politics from our public schools. But have you done any research into the history and evolution of religion over the recorded history of mankind? It's pretty interesting. It has given me a much greater understanding of Christianity than any of the polar arguments now up for bid in world culture.
Are you really willing to trust your eternal soul on the shallow opinions and judgments of established church corporations?
or a political ruler such as Constantine?
Let's see a real discussion suggested.
