Is it possible that it is because the idea of one true God was just a way to shorten an already extensive religion in the Middle East?Did you know that the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Menes, who ruled (2950 - 3110 B.C.E.), did this when he consolidated the worship of Gods to one God known as Ptah?

The Roman Empire invented "Christianity" to do just that. There were so many different religions it was causing a problem. So, Constantine invented a "universal religion" that incorporated the Hebrew religions & paganism.

It is now called "Christianity," but it is more pagan than Hebrew.

Amazing how few people had heard of the Hebrew God until Constantine forced everyone to adopt him (it?) as their "God."

Actually Akenatan worshipped a monotheistic god but he required his followers to worship a trinity composed of himself, his wife and the almighty represented by the sun. He was interesting guy I wish there was more to know about him.

Actually, Ahkenaton was the first to impose total monotheism upon the Egyptians. Until then Egypt was mostly polytheistic.
