I have no clue why people who arent going to post secondary thinking of joing the fighting forces?? Canada has a high unemployment record. The forces will set you up for life, home, food, early retirement. then you wouldnt have to flip burgers your whole life. plus you get to travel . Im seriously thinking of joining, its a wonderful career oppurtunity . Also its almost laughable getting in. you just have to be able to do 19 push ups 19 sit ups and a 2 KM run.

Ha, ha. You must be really young to think like that. You are like my little brother who decided to be a truck driver, because you travel and see many beautiful places. But he forgot what truck drivers really do, what kind of job it is....

I say if you want to do it then go for it. Though I am in the American Army and not the Canadian. I know a lot of people in the Canadian Army.

My wife is from Canada (Brandon, Manitoba) and her father is a retired Army MP. I have been out to the Shilo Army base many times and to me they all seem like really good guys/girls.

I do have to admit your PT does seem really relaxed. In the US military my minimun as a 22 yr old is. 40 push ups, 50 sit ups, and 2 miles in 16:36. Oh well though you can just work on PT in your own time.

Take care and good luck with everything.

Good luck on everything.

Most young men I encounter don't look like the type of men who would endure any kind of discipline. They are shady, listless, and are more concerned with their I-pod than anything else. I agree with you on the opportunities, but Canada has not treated its forces with much respect like our neighbours to the south. I am 54, and believe it or not, I still have til I am 56 to sign up....crazy! I am actually thinking of doing it...Our unemployment rate is the lowest its been since 1976, for the record.

that is only the weekend warriors. the career regs usually have very high academics marks and need to perform a bit better than you state on the physical. At this time Canada has a low unemployment rate and if you doubt that then come to Alberta or check out Ontario. Busy, busy, busy, believe it!

A lot of people get turned off by the sluggish pace of the recruiting process, I think. It's par for the course for a year to go by between initial application and reporting for basic training. If you really want to join get your application in ASAP and then keep after them.
