It all depends on from where you are flying into Thailand. Normally the national carrier of any country is likely to offer good discounts to visit their country. So Thai may offer u great discounts.

your are best off to get a flight from a consolidator, which can usually be found in the Sunday travel section of any large major city.. but even better, if you are near a Thai restaurant, ask them where and who has the cheapest flights.. They will know.. And as to a guide, it is pretty safe and easy to travel here... not terribly necessary but if you have any questions you can contact me.. I live here full time and know the country and language fairly well...

If you fly from SG to Thai, try Tiger Airways, it is the cheapest, so far I find.

Thai airways is cheep, but you legs are dandling out of the craft. the Thai are short people and the craft is made for them.
