Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
It works great AND it's free. What more could you ask for?

I like using Gold Wave. You select parts of the song to cut out and then you can save it. I assume other programs do that too.
UNLESS by pieces, you mean like...cutting them into portions, sending them to people, and then having them put it back together. XD Not sure if that exists...
EDIT: Goldwave has a free trial, but you can use it after those 30 days too. The trial has all the features too. :)

Audio Audition is a really good one, and pretty easy to use. That's what a lot of people in radio use to edit songs or make commercials. It used to be called Cool Edit Pro. You can probably download a trial version off of download.com to use for a while if you don't want to buy it.

Audacity is physically powerful, as one responder observed. in line with possibility no ought to characterize greater advantageous, yet Goldwave is likewise yet another unfastened sound document editor. As i'm helpful Audacity can do, this methodology can chop up archives besides as shop in many diverse options of fomat. attempt even action picture maker.I even have chop up sound archives there too. the single situation is that action picture maker would be finicky in regards to the type of archives it somewhat is going to import into its application
