The Bible says, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." (Isa. 8:20)

But the Mormon Church claims that other writings, such as the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith's writings are also authoritative. In fact, Joseph Smith taught his people to doubt the accuracy of the Bible: "...it was apparent that many important points touching the salvation of men, had been taken from the Bible, or lost before it was compiled." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 10)

The Book of Mormon contains many plagiarisms of the King James English (at least 25,000 words). This is strange since the plates were supposed to have been in the ground many centuries before the King James Bible was completed in 1611! The Book of Mormon also contains many errors such as claims of elephants in the Western Hemisphere and advanced metal producing capabilities in America before 400 A.D.

Mormon Writings Support Polygamy

"...if any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse another, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then he is justified; he cannot commit adultery...And if he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery." (Doctrines and Covenants, 132:61, 62)

Jesus Christ held a slightly different view (Mark 10:6- 9). There is no way a man can be "one flesh" with more than one woman. A man and his wife are supposed to picture Christ and his church (Eph. 5:23-32), but this symbolism is shattered by the Mormon heresy of Polygamy.

There are prophets, which one do you believe?

As a Christian, you believe that the bible is the word of God as spoken by the prophets. Your prophets begin with Moses and ends with Jesus, Luke 24:25.

There are others who believe that there are prophets such as Muhammad or Joseph Smith. Whether they are correct is not something we can debate, it is a belief.

If you are patience, you will find how Jesus deals with belief, believe, believer, and yes, unbelief. Just read the Gospel of John noticing how those words are used.

So until Jesus returns, you will have some one knocking on your door, telling you about things that just do fit with what you know to be true.

What's up with the Mormons? Nothing from a Christian perspective.

Mormon is a colloquial term used to refer specifically to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in some contexts to members of smaller denominations that broke away from the Latter Day Saint movement. The term is derived from use of the Book of Mormon, one of the faith's four books of scripture known as the Standard Works. The book, in turn, derives its name from Mormon, an ancient prophet who compiled and abridged many records to form The Book of Mormon.

As a new Christian, you ripe pickings for their denomination. Chances are, you don't know enough to recognize when something contradicts scripture. As such, it is very easy to rope you into their framework, and lead you to a point where it becomes very hard to see the contradictions between the teachings of the Mormons, and the Bible.

Don't just read the Bible, but study it. Go thru it verse by verse.
[Spend fifteen minutes a day, studying one passage from the Bible.]

Religion is about faith. It also is about learning what the beliefs, and practices of your faith are.

the missionaries would not have told you to not read the bible. Mormons (LDS) believe in the bible and the Book of Mormon. They are asking you to read the scriptures and ask God for a correct answer, if what they told you and what you read is true.

I think if a person is compelled to have imaginary friends, he would do welll to become a Mormon.

At least Mormons have a doctrine by which they try to live. And, their efforts are generally dedicated to self improvement.

But, to each his own.

BTW, the bible is a book of mythology invented by the Roman Empire (Constantine), so what difference does it make which book of myths you follow? And, Mormons do follow the bible as much as any other Christian denomination.

You choose your own religion, your not born into it, no one gives it to you, you don't have to be baptized to truly "be in one religion or another its whatever "you" believe of have faith in.

I'm not Christian or Mormon and don't believe in either. (meaning if someone tells me I'm gonna burn in hell for not following their religion I couldn't care less, lol. It doesn't exist "to me" only to those who choose to believe it.)

Anyone can create their own religion these days and have. The only difference between a cult and a religion is how mainstream in our society it is and how many people follow it.

Anyways if you believe in Christianity and have faith in it don't let anyone else sway you, would also hope you respected others beliefs and not try to sway them.

Those two guys probably didn't want to be there anyway. Mission is considered a male rite of passage for Mormons. If you read the Book, you will probably start to worry about the sanity of their parents...

read as much of other religious texts as you can get a hold of
accept truch. reject falsehood.
