I have two dogs , usually the Shepherd cross is the barker , always watching out. But during a thunderstorm my lab goes crazy barking at the lightning and running all over the yard,I can't get him to stop. Any one else have this problem?

Believe it or not. You actually need to teach him to speak. I had a dog that always barked whenever rain hit the window. What we did was every time her barked tell him good speak and gave him a treat. Before long he would bark only once at the rain and then realized he wasn't getting a treat and would quit barking. After you teach him to speak you need to teach him out. Get him to speak then tell him out. When he stops barking reward him with a treat. For my dog we had him to where he would speak and "out" within about a week, Good Luck.

Maybe he is just scared of the lightning and maybe he has a phobea against it. It can happened just when you here that it is going to storm just bring your dogs inside and turn on a radio and turn it up so loud that your dog can not hear the thunder if that does not work bring him inside the house and when it lightnings let him run around in the house sooner or later he will get tired and fall out. But that is ok just give him time to get over it!

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/eh4rl

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Don`t worry. It`s completely normal for dogs to be afraid of storms. You can take his attention away from it by trying to play with his favorite toy. Also, you could go in a room that he feels comfortable in with very few windows. I`ve never heard of an official remedy though.

take them inside when it has a storm. usually dogs dont bark at the lightning itself, it is only scared about the storm and how loud its effects are. maybe of the cold. bring them in.

I think your dog is afraid of thunderstorm... I think all dog think that something going to happen around yjeir surrounding... And they just can't show /speak it...

Same for my dog....

When the rain start to come... My dog will hide under the bed if my family or me are not around... When it hear the thunder, she start barking loudly under the bed... She always hide under my desk when I around...

keep him inside during a storm. when he starts to get agitated and bark, sooth him and tell him there's nothing out there, try to get him to calm down. it'll probably take a while, but it should work. you're the leader of his 'pack', and if he sees you're not concerned about something, he'll decide it's not such a big deal.
