because a double only needs to add a second piece of meat from a single. A single from a nothing requires all the bun and lettuce and tomato and such already.

I live in Thailand and a cheeseburger at Mc's costs 29 baht whereas a double cheeseburger costs 60 baht.
Pretty expensive for most of the people here!
One US dollar = about 37 to 39 baht.
