Now I have asthma and cannot go out to hear live music or to any bar. I do not drink, but want to go out. I cannot because it gets me sick. This is not fair. My city has banned smoking in restaurants which helps, but not in bars. This is not fair to me.
Would it be more fair to ban smoking in public so it did not violate my health and the health of workers in the area like CA?
My idea is to give smokers free nicotine patches and gum for public use. Tax cigarettes really high to get this money for them. That way they do not hurt others.
Then they can pay for my inhaliers if I need them because I only need them after a smoke exposure or when I am sick now. I have controled my asthma and allergies with the environment. If I get exposed to smoke I need many medications to get back on track. It can be hunderds of dollars to get back into health. Perhaps the cigarette tax should pay for that too.

Yeah I do not take meds if I do not have a smoke exposure. I keep the house really clean and have no carpet just wood. I have no nick nacks. It is the smokers that cause me to need meds. Last week when my boyfriend were leaving a restaranunt the only way out we had to leave tru some smokers who decded to light up in the threshold so we could inhale it. There was not even wind. They were just being a holes. I want people not to smoke, so I can go places I am limited from. I keep my home evironment perfect and take no meds, but have to stay out of smokey places and if I make a mistake I pay with illness and having to take tons of meds and then get off when my lungs settle down. Other than that I only need meds when I have a cold. my mom is so sick from her smoking now that she cannot be around smoke either. She quit because I told her her boyfriend would dump her.

I was right he said he would if she had not quit when he found out she was a smoker before. She never started again, but her lungs are trashed.

Yeah ban all public smoking and give people no refund on a damage deposit if they smoke in an apartment. Perhaps have them sign a contract that they will not get it back if they smoke in there and that if they smoke outside they not be allowed. Then tax the cigarrettes really high and use it for all lung and allergy issues. Not for state income.

People are correct why should other health carriers have to pay for that. It should all be covered by cigarrette tax. Even all my lung care. All lung and allergy care should be funded by the cigarrette tax and smoking in public should give people huge fines. If they do not pay you can take their car or home or whatever they own for funding their ticket. Then throw that money into paying the health care bills for lung issues.

Mine did too. I am an adult smoker. My kids hate it. I smoke around them which makes me an asshole. Your parents are assholes for smoking around you. If they couldnt quit, at least they could have not exposed you to it. I agree with all of your points and wish you good luck....

Education and companies who will produce healthy cigarettes that are affordable to those who want to smoke is what should be done. The raising of taxes is getting ridiculous!!! Why don't we jack up the tax on alcohol to pay for all the drunk drivers and havoc they cause,or car owners that pollute the air with their emissions. There is a company that does sell healthy cigarettes that are made of lettuce but they want $100 for 18 packs. Tired of people who think" raise taxes that will fix it", this is suppose to be a free country for all. Sorry you have asthma its a disease that is controllable if you like bars find one that is smoke free,or find some place else you enjoy goin too, Alcoholism is a disease maybe we should close all bars, obesity is a disease maybe would should get rid of unhealthy foods, how far is it goin to go?

When I was little my dad smoked everyday. Then suddenly he quit. I dont even remember him going through the quitting stages, but I surely do remember him having been a smoker. When I was born I had a breathing problem...I don't know if that has anything to do with my dad having been a smoker...I still have problems being able to breath.
Im sorry to hear that you have to go through all that, just for your health. The worst being that it's not your fault. That sucks. Maybe you should do some kind of protest...or some kind of campaigning....

That really sounds less like a question. But I am with you on this one. Giving free nicotine patches is not the right idea. Convincing them to get nicotine patches is the right thing to do. I understand that you want to make a difference, you can start by getting a petition to ban smoking in public places. Most countries ban smoking in public places.

You are right. In fact, I believe cigarettes should be so highly taxed that they should be REALLY unaffordable to an average person. This way smoking would diminish(I know people who smoked very little because they couldn't afford more, in a country where cigs were very expensive) and money would be gathered to treat the diseases caused by smoking. Why do my social security money go to the treatment of patients who chose to smoke? Smokers should pay more for covering these expenses.

I bet your parents feel crappy that they are the primary cause to your problem? Yes, i agree with you. It should be banned from indoor public enclosed areas. Why should the nonsmokers suffer the same burden or even worse because of second hand smoking. What's the problem with stepping outside and lighting one up. If someone is so desperate to smoke, they will find a way and that way, is getting your a*s outside to do it. Are my 15 seconds up...........................

the same thing happened to me now i have breathing problems because my mom smoked in front of me my whole life even when she was pregnant but think that as long as every city has it banned in airports, bars, etc. that it would decrease the amount of second-hand smoke victims... i do not think that they should ban smoking completely though because it is there freedom to smoke and probaly kill themselves... i think they should make it illegal for pregnant wpmen to smoke though because you are directly harming the child

when they get old and when they get helpless, try asking someone to smoke on their face.
pretty mean but think about it. a concerned parent should know what would be better for his / her child. now you're paying what they've done.
