I have had 2 cool friends turn into pricks because of their stupidity. They say I am going to hell because I do not believe in Christ. Christianity has not even been around as long as my religion. Also, does the Bible tell Christians to convert people into their religion if they are already not a Christian? This brainwashing by primarily Christians ticks me off. Don't you people know that there are other religions out there?

Yeah, and you're not obsessed with your own religion..."Christianity has not even been around as long as my religion" boo-hoo-hoo...is that how you base on what you're going to believe...on how long that idology has been around the block?! Geeezz...no wonder you're not Christian....Our beliefs are superior to everyone else's....and you know why? Because we're the only ones who profess "to love everyone even your enemies!" We promote peace and not hatred! Look around...read the news...learn about different religions and then you tell me...Wouldn't the world be a better place if instead of..."an eye for an eye" we all believed in "Loving everybody" ? Common sense, my dear boy, common sense.

Mostly it is to feel close to other people, and they feel so sure about what they believe because it gives such a hopeful veiw for the end. Mainly that the faithful will live for eternity with their God and those who are not on their side are condemed to their Hell. I converted to Paganism because it just feels right for me, but I keep getting told by people who say they 'Know' what God expects of us and how I work for the Devil (who I do not believe exists) and I should return to the fold. I also know some really cool Christians My grandmother is one of them who are excepting of others because they cannot say that they are wrong simply because they have a different faith. Most Christians think that any other religion is the work of the Devil and leave it at that, and when convronted with the truth will try to refuit it with their scripture and make a complete jerk of themselvs and their religion.

Sorry if I offended any one I know not all Christians are Bible pushers so to those decient Christians i mean no offese. Even if you do resemble the negitive type of personality that I have discribed I still mean no offense because I am not a God nor am I judge jury or exicutioner.

Peace Out.

Well, look at it this way---if you were in another country,ie, the middle east and you spouted off some sh** like that, you'd lose more than your friends. They'd take your head, at least. So, you want to talk about brainwashing? If you are so pissed at Christians, why don't you go back where you came from. That is about a good suggestion. We Christians do not want you here anyway. Yep, there are lots and lots of religions and as long as a person is trying to do good things in the world, I think they are fine. If I have nothing in common with you, then I do not want to be around you no matter what religion you are. Maybe that was your friends' sympathies.

Religion is a serious mental illnesses. It’s the inability to face the reality of life and the finality of death. It affects 85% of the USA and 75% of US victims are Christians. The more pathetic and desperate a persons life, the more likely they are to believe in a god. People with otherwise empty lives, are the strongest believers. It gives them false hope that there’s a higher meaning to their sad and pathetic lives.

Religious people are dangerous. They cannot think for themselves, but instead cling to every word the bible says. Religious fanatics can somehow throw out all scientific evidence and replace it with the word of one book that has no credibility.

Recognising religion as a type of mental illness would be a good start to help cure this disease. We should develop support groups along the lines of Alcoholics Anonymous - “My name is Sam and I’m a recovering Christian ...”

No religion is the correct one, and all religions have got it wrong.

There are many major religions in the world, such as Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, and so on. Within each major religion there can also be many minor religions. For example, within Christianity there is Catholic, Protestant, Anglican and so on. Within Islam there is Shiite, Sunni etc.

In summary there are many hundreds of different religions in the world all with their devoted believers and followers. Talk to any devout religious person and they will almost emphatically insist that their religion is the right one, it’s fact, and any non-believer is doomed.

Commonsense and logic would suggest that if there was any truthful or factual basis to religion, then only one of these religions could be correct, not all of them. However, in my view, it’s highly unlikely that any of these man-made religions bear any resemblance to fact or the truth, and are more likely to be the result of simplistic human intelligence looking for an escape from reality.

Yeah I had a friend say that I was going to hell too! I told him to blow it out his a_ss! I think some people are raised in Christianity are not exposed to anything Else, so they are ignorant to any thing outside their little safe box! Things regarding their religion and faith will probably change when they get older! I have a friend that apparently when he was younger was a total dick about his religion and how he treated other that didn't believe that same thing he did, now he a tattooed, drinking gambling freak, that had a child out of wedlock (don't get me wrong he a good guy which is kinda funny considering I'm not religious and I got married before having kids), so things will probably change when some of these people get a little more life experience and realize there is more to life than just their religion! Same with most people on this site I think they are mostly young with not alot of life experience

Of the new founded religions there are two which tend to convert others to their own religion...one is Islam, the other is Christianity. Their means are different though as everybody knows. Christians believe that it is a great religious achievement to convert a non-believer(of Christ). The founded religions like Buddhism, Jainism which are peaceful...find few followers- because these religions are not propagated aggressively.
Hinduism...it was not founded by anyone...it was always there. That's why it's called the Sanatan Dharma (the eternal religion).

Yes, there are many other religions, out there. That's true. But Christians feel that theirs is the only 'true' religion. When a person converts to Christianity by accepting Jesus as their Lord & savior, it totally changes their heart, mind and Life and they begin to their life in a different and supernatural way. God's own holy spirit dwells within them and everything becomes new. Sins are washed away (it's a daily thing) and many feel joy that they never had before and can't be explained any other way, than God himself. Yes, the bible does go and tell others to tell others the way of salvation and to spread the gospel. So, when your 'friends' are telling you about Christianity, they are most likely doing it because they care about you and want you to go to heaven. The world calls it 'brainwashing' but..it's a concscious choice we make. Others call it love.

Well, Christians are supposed to seek the heart of God which is Love. God commands us (Christians) to spread the Gospel to the nations. With that being said, many religions partake in religion bashing, or don't know how to be witnesses when sharing it with others and get frustrated...every religion does this. We (Christians) are aware of other religious beliefs; but we try not to judge, for they may not know...especially since One and only One has died for our sins and has therefore provided us with an opportunity to have free will without consequence. So in closing, I sympathize with your bad experience, because the devil is hard at work to see us, as a people, fail. On the other hand, some fail to forget that the Lord tests our faith through these very acts as well. Maybe their intentions were good, but they just didn't know how to express just how much the tremendous sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us has affected them and so many others, and just how wonderful Jehovah-Shammah really is.

You must be Jewish.

If you are, have you tried reminding them that you're the Chosen People and that Paul said the Gentiles now get attached to all of this "chosen" stuff because of Jesus!

I'm not Jewish, I'm a believer in Jesus.

And I agree many religious people are, tend to be or become uncool and that doesn't speak well becasue of their reigion or for their religon!

You can be reasoanbly cool and still be religious.

Some Christians (not all) are obsessed because they are taught to be or encouraged to be that. IT is evangelical!

If you ARE Jewish, then you were taught not the speak the name of G-d or write it! I did that for your benefit!

Also remind them, they don't keep the LAst Supper like JEsus wanted it kept! Complete with the wine, breaking of bread, lamb, good friends, good times, bad times and reading of the bible.

Jesus was basically a very good Jew, he just wanted things to change and as I've pointed out in other posts they have and without Jesus direct help. Jew no longer stone whores at the city gates! The eye for an eye thing is more a matter of speech than a way of life.

Jews keep the traditions passed down from G-d and most Christians practise neo-pagan rituals like Christmas and Easter (on two different days, depending on which Christain religion you subscribe to)!

Tell them to stop being jerks, it's giving Jesus a bad name! Jesus don't want people to act like jerk, Jesus want Jerks to act like people. Like children of G-d!

The answer to this question depends on the Christians involved. Most mainstream Christian sects encourage tolerance towards other religions. There are relatively few Christian denominations that actively preach conversion as a tenet of their religion.

As an atheist, I used to think that Evangelists were one of the biggest offenders in this category of converters, but I've since been educated in the facts. The truth is most Evangelists are normal mainstream Christians who have respect for those who hold other faiths (and can often have respect for people like me who espouse no faith at all).

I use that only as an example of how religious orientation can be stereotyped. Any line of belief will have its radicals (just ask a Muslim; I daresay most of them chafe at being linked to the Islamic terrorist stereotype).

Although I would have no particular religious persuasion I would subscribe to the view of religious tolerance. In the sense that how you choose to worship and which holy texts you choose to revere is your personal and spiritual choice. I know plenty of Christians who are exactly as you describe, but I know plenty more who aren't. Really I suppose Christianity is no worse or better than other religions at being intolerant. However in Western culture we have all (for the most part) some sort of Christian influences in our ancestry so we are more in contact with Christian virtues or lack of them and therefore tend to target Christianity more then any other religion. The point I am trying make is that there is good and bad in every religion. There are things that every religion is ashamed of, because we are all human and we will all err. The key to it all is there are certain basic morals which transcend religious, cultural and ethical differences that we all need to embrace. The rest of it is personal.
