I have about a month until school starts, and wanted to lose about 10 pounds or so. I have been trying to lose weight all summer, but stupidly kept putting it off. So now, after wasting two months, I NEED to start. The problem is I can't seem to stay motivated. Does anyone have any ideas how I can lose the weight and how to stay motivated enough to do it? Your help would be appreciated!

Your not going to lose 10 pounds in a month, your goal is to high. Try to lose a pound or 2 a week when you see the short term results it will give you some incentive to go on.
One thing you should be doing is drinking a lot of distilled water, a large glass 15-20 min. before and another during every meal. No sodas diet or otherwise.
Cut out all white foods and sweeteners, this means even rice and potatoes. Whole grains, brown rice, sweet potatoes, anything green with tomato sauce, NO TRAN FATS, and easy on the fruits. Take vitamins, C,E,D's and a good multi.
Beans not meat, snack on pretzels and raw veggies, salads but be careful not to use bottled dressings, use extra virgin olive oil with spices and vinegar.
Increase your exercises a little each day don't over do it. Try a little 2 or three times a day instead of one longer period.
Someone else mentioned a full length mirror if you could get more than one that would be even better and make a point to look in as much as possible every day.\
If this doesn't work for you, you can get your jaw wired!

There are different ways to stay motivated, you just have to find what is the best motivation for you. Most people I know keep 'health' as the ultimate motivator for staying on track food and exercise-wise. Just like anything else that you REALLY want, you just have to keep at it. If you can't keep on the goal, then maybe you aren't mentally ready. You just have to believe you can. Keep a diet and exercise journal by your bed and jot down what you ate and what you did for exercise. If you aren't losing the recommended 2 pounds a week, try looking at your eating and exercising habits, and make the adjustments. Best of luck!

I have learned that losing weight is not something that happens on demand. It happens gradually by changing behaviors that cause the weight gain in the first place. I'm guessing you are in high school or college? I bet if you were to simply drink more water instead of soda, make a sandwich instead of eating fast food, eat fruit instead of cookies, and walk just 20 minutes every day. You will see a change that will encourage you to find other healthy ways to lose weight. And it will be long term instead of on occasion.

Hmm, sounds like you subconciously don't really want to lose weight. When you do, the motivation is there. If your doing it to impress other people, then your going about it all wrong. The point is to get healthy for yourself. And when you realize you have no one to impress and make happy than yourself, you'll see the motivation come back.

But for practical purposes, you could put up a cute dress you want to fit in to, or a pic of a reward to buy yourself when you do make your goal, like some cute piece of jewelry.

Since 3500 calories equals one pound, you'll have to have a total "calorie deficit" of 35,000 calories over the next month. That equates to a 1167 daily "calorie deficit". In other words, you'll have to work off 1167 more calories than you eat each day.

I recommend using Fitday.com to keep track of everything you take in & everything you work off. Using Fitday, I was able to figure out exactly what I needed to do every day based on how much I ate. It really worked for me! (BTW, Fitday helps estimate how many calories you burn at rest. That factors in. Only part of the 1167 calories will be burned off through exercise.)

Staying motivated is another matter, of course. I recommend getting a goal buddy. For example, my friend & I have a 5-day challenge: we promised each other that we'd each work out for at least 30 mins a day over the next 5 days. At the end of each day we'll report to each other whether or not we did it. This really works for me, too! If you need help finding goal buddies, I recommend using Sparkpeople.com. You can join a challenge or start your own. (Search "calorie-counting challenge," if you want.)

I think it's good that you know how much you want to lose & in what period of time. It can be done, but it does take a lot of commitment. The calorie-counting method may not be for you if you don't like having to record everything. For me, though, I couldn't stand leaving it all to guesswork 'cause I was very serious about losing a certain amount in a certain period of time (a pound or 2 per week).

BTW, both sites are free.

BTW2, I lost weight even eating sweets every day 'cause I knew how long I'd have to work out to work it off. When I first started, I found it easier to track calories if I ate prepared meals -- Lean Cuisine, etc., -- where I knew exactly how many calories were in each entree.

Good luck!

Read this and maybe understanding will motivate you. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic index and load. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.

Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

Well, as far as my personal experience has gone to show, losing weight can be an agonizingly GRADUAL process. I've lost quite a bit of weight myself since middle school, and frankly the best method in my opinion is none other than the one I employed: exercising for an hour AT THE VERY LEAST on a daily basis. That, and limiting junk food intake can work wonders as well. Not to mention curbing cravings for snacks between meals. Oh, and, one last piece of advice: eat at least 4 hours prior to bedtime. That gives you ample time for your body to digest the food before metabolism slows in preparation for sleep.

Hi
Do not get into any kind of drastic weight loss programme ,cause you will gain it all back .this plan really worked for me so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx

so good luck

Make it fun. Go jog at the park or listen to music. That always helps me. Eat healthy. Don't starve yourself but eat the healthy foods you love.

Buy the South Beach Diet. That is the best diet for droping lots of pound in a month but still eating stuff you like.

Hope that helps :)

you need an all over program to work with, a combination of diet and exercise. I suggest you see a skinny doctor and see what they say is best for you, as for staying motivated I suggest you listen to a speaker named Zig Ziglar he does focus on sales but his goal setting tapes are great for keeping you motivated and on track to lose that 10 pounds.
meanwhile try and eat less and exercise more
