They are very cool when I'm having them, but they just make me sad when I wake up and can't really fly at all.

George Bush has this problem also. Get yourself a ride in a glider.I have had this dream a few times but it's usually in a circle and I go higher and higher until I'm over the trees. It might be related to your blood sugar. I 've also had this problem with cold medications too. Maybe your having an out of body experience but I doubt it. You should note if you wake up dizzy. This might be caused by sleep apnea.

I fly all the time in my dreams ...

Dream Dictionary:
flying - By yourself: Signal to think positive, all things are possible.

Critics have noted that it's too big a jump here to say that the study proves that dreams are meaningful. We can only say that upon waking, people can make meaning and give them value, but this doesn't prove they are intrinsically meaningful. Like a rock on the ground, they say, it doesn't become meaningful until it's used.

Maybe you were a pilot in your past life? When you wake up you've realized that you are not one, so this makes you feel sad about it. I dont know. Dreams are difficult to interpret. They have books for this in the new age section of any book store. Check it out online too. Kind of interesting. I dreampt i had one a million dollars, waking up to find that i was the same old poor bastard.

Just close your eyes & imagine that you are flying over the clouds. It would make you loads better. Imagination can be fun.

Some say that dream flying is actually astral projection, or it could be the burrito you had before bed. :)

Dunno. But, when you are flying, is it like "Superman", or are you standing up and flying...like walking in the air without walking sort of flying?

I'm always standing up. Curious as to why...
