I'm interested in purchasing a metal detector to find some possible buried "treasure" in Mexico (ie gold or other coins). I need it to reach down at least two feet below the surface. Looking to spend between $200 and $400. What specs are important to look for? Also, I cant find anything in descriptions about depth.

I don't know why the items your looking for don't mention much about depth, because they usually do.

Other important features.

It's ability to discriminate amongst different types of metals. Some metal detectors make it super easy for you like a gold or silver only setting.

Can it go in water. If your looking for gold, we know that gold in the stream. Many detetectors will allow you to use the device in water.

Headphones capable.
Do you want other people listining to the annoying beeping sound. The first one I purchased didn't have it. I held back sometimes because I thought I was going to get on someones nerves.

Doubtful you can find one that will go down 2ft for under a Grand, much less 2 to 4 hundred. That is a low ball figure for a moderate detector. Try looking at White's site. I think it is called whites electronics or something like that. Just type "whites detectors" (with the quote marks!!!) in your Yahoo search box and you'll get all kinds of hits.

A steel detector is an digital device which detects the presence of steel interior reach. steel detectors are clever for finding steel inclusions hidden interior products, or steel products buried underground. they often encompass a hand-held unit with a sensor probe which will nicely be swept over the floor or different products. If the sensor comes close to a sprint bit steel it incredibly is indicated via a changing tone in earphones, or a needle shifting on a hallmark. often the gadget provides some indication of distance.
