Not just evolution, but other things as well, like reports on human sexual behaviour that clearly make the Bible outdated, considering it was written at a time when modern science didn't exist. I just can't grasp how they can brush aside scientific facts which explain our world consistently. And don't give me that crap about science always changing when it is wrong-that is what science is about; adapting to new information.

Christians are not completely against science. Science is a process of explaining things we can't yet explains. We Christrians believe that there is one truth, God's Word, the Bible. That there are some things that can only be taken with faith because there is a higher power that is incomprehensible to us. In this world there are undoubtable scientific facts. Things that point to the truth and are unchangable. The truth however, relies on the interpreter (the truth is in the eye of the beholder). The evidence says the same thing but how we view it depends on our core beliefs or "what type of glasses we are looking through." If you believe that God's world is the truth then you will come up with the belief that the world is only a few thousand years old and that the evidence justifies that. If you believe that evolution is true and that we got here over a process of millions of years than you see the evidence as proving that true. For example say humanity is almost wiped out and all records of history have been destroyed. Two people come across MT. Rushmore, one being of the same mentallity of Christians and one of Scientests. The Christian would say that evidently someone years ago created the carvings. The scientest would say that millions of years of wind and rains by coincidence eroded into humanlike forms. I suggest you take a look at www.answersingenesis.com. It is a profound study on how the evidence about our orign point to the truth.

actually I see it the other way around. science as it adpats to the quote unquote new information is slowly proving the Bible right. Take for instance Hell. People have said that hell can not be as it's described in the Bible because if it's as hot as it says heat has to have an energy source which would create light so that means that Hell can't also be dark. Strange to see how science has found new information that there is a hot hotter than white hot it's black hot. Identified because of the sun spots which were originally thought to be cooler than the rest of the sun but is now know to be hotter spots.
Second example archologists have discovered an ancient city with some unique qualities about it. The walls surrounding the city were deeper than the buildings that were in the city and the walls did not crumble as the buildings did. Hmmm I feel a chorus of "Joshua Fought the Battle of Jerico" coming on.

Science is based upon one set of beliefs.
Religion is based upon a different set of beliefs.

The issue is not whether or not Christians accept science. The issue is about the underlying premises of the theories that science has. If the underlying premises of a theory are congruent with the Christian belief system, the theory will be accepted by Christians. If the underlying premises of a theory are not congruent with the Christian belief system, the theory will not be accepted by Christians.

* How they can brush aside scientific facts which explain our world consistently.

Try this:
None of the data in the Bible about how the universe works, has been contradicted by Science. The Bible has a theory about how things works, which usually is both consistent, and simpler than the dominant scientific theory.

I'm a Christian, and I love science! All scientific data (that I've so far learned) makes sense to me, and I don't find any of it contradictory to the Bible. What I do find is that two people can look at the same data and come up with two totally different conclusions. That's all. Science, Christians, and the Bible can all easily coexist.

BTW, did you know that the Old Testament is chock-full of "laws" that God laid out for His people before they had modern scientific knowledge, but it is all beneficial in a modern scientific way? For example, God commanded people not to eat pigs. As it turns out, pork (especially the "free range" kind that are fed slops, etc.) aren't particularly healthy for our human bodies because they eat too much for their stomach acids to digest properly. However, the Jews just obeyed for righteousness' sake. It's interesting to me that healthful, scientific laws were written by Someone with scientific knowledge before scientific knowledge was widely acquired. If it wasn't God, then who exactly wrote and why exactly was it written that the Jews were required not to eat pork? I mean, if an unscientific, unreligious person tasted bacon or ham, there is no way they would make a law forbidding it. It tastes too good. But, a loving, caring God provided His people with a book of laws to help them take care of their bodies (think of it as an Owners' Manual for a Ford F-150 or something like that, which recommends oil changes and when to re-lube, etc.).

And pork is but one small example.

Christians do believe in science. They believe that God created the universe and designed it to work following the laws that He put in place.

If you are interested, I suggest reading a book titled 'A Case For Christ', written by an atheist/lawyer/journalist who set out to prove that the Bible was fiction to his Christian wife and inadvertently proved it (or at least the Gospels) to be true, factual, and historically accurate - using science and logic.

What I find interesting is the number of atheists who pick and choose what science they want to believe because it supports their preconceptions. Take evolution, since it has been already mentioned. Evolutionist theories have always been proven to be frauds. Many, disproven more than 50 years ago, still appear in college textbooks.

Well, maybe I think women having babies is outdated, do you want that changed? Sound morals and values are outdated and look what is happening in the world.Sex slavery, children being sold for a little dope, ppl losing their homes and families- is this what we should adapt to in place of Christianity? Why can't some scientists accept God? Scientists are adapting to new info with their minds that God gave them and also the ability to process the changing world and all of it's info. How can you brush aside the Bible's info and not adapt to it??

telemarklover,
I'm a Christian that doesn't like to stop thinking. Much of the so-called science today is actually politically motivated. I must say that much of it is spiritually motivated- in a bad way.

When I look at Global Warming for instance, you can see clearly that 'scientists' have seen it before.

Here's one example:
Global Warming Caused Mass Extinctions 247 Million Years Ago

Tuesday , April 04, 2006

CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. — John Roth shined his flashlight on a black streak flowing through the cream-colored marble forming the walls of the Oregon Caves.

The graphite line is graphic evidence of dramatic global warming that consumed so much oxygen that it nearly wiped out all life on the planet 247 million years ago, said the natural resources specialist for the Oregon Caves National Monument.

"It was the biggest extinction by far of all time," he said. "Geologists and paleontologists all agree on that. ... The extinction that killed the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago, that wasn't anything compared to this."

Yet, like the huge meteor striking the Gulf of Mexico that many scientists believe wiped out the dinosaurs, the global warming at the end of the Permian period resulted in deadly amounts of carbon dioxide that killed most land animals, he said.

Scientists aren't certain what caused the episode some 247 million years ago. They estimate that temperatures ranged in the low 100s year-round for thousands of years, he said.

"Its kind of scary that we don't know for sure what caused the worst catastrophe of life on this planet," he said.

The graphite lines, whose significance was recently recognized, are not unique to the caves, which were formed perhaps half a million years ago, he said.

Roth is a geologist by training and a former science teacher who has worked as a natural resource specialist at the monument for 17 years.

He said the new evidence suggests that "we had a runaway hothouse effect because of the excess carbon dioxide. There was so much carbon dioxide introduced into the atmosphere, mostly from methane from the oceans."

That carbon dioxide build-up alone would have killed off most oxygen-breathing species, he said.

With the annual caves tour season under way, this latest discovery will give guides yet another scientific topic to discuss with visitors.

Another is the fact a jaguar fossil found in the caves in 1995 was recently dated by a Canadian expert to be 32,800 years old, making it one of the oldest known jaguar fossils found in North America, Roth said.

Grizzly fossils thousands of years old were found in 1997 by a team mapping the far interior of the caves. Half a dozen previously undescribed species of insects, including a relic from the last Ice Age, also have been found there.

AHHHHHHAAA!
It happened before industrialization. Before the USA. Before capitalism. Before George Bush. Before the NRA. Before the invention of the SUV.

SEE?! There was nothing we could do about it then, and there's nothing we could do about it now. We are along for the ride and there is no amount of taxation that can solve it! Nada, nothing!

This kind of news makes me so happy that I cry. . . . . got a hanky?

All religious preachers just pump their one theory (God exists) down our throats.

When the science community makes a discovery or modifies a theory they publish a paper for all to view, speculate on, and debate. Invariably such discoveries open up our simplistic minds and expand our horizons. Examples would be the works of Einstein and Hawking, to name a very small sample.

So why do preachers have to continually pump their one theory (God exists) down our throats. Why do they stand on street corners and hand out leaflets, yell at passers by, gather huge crowds and push unsuspecting victims over in the belief they will be cured of whatever mental or physical ailment invades them, if they just believe in the theory of God.

Why can’t the believers of religious theory just behave in a decent manner, in much the same way as the scientific community does. The answer to all of these questions is simple. They know their theory of God is wrong, and saturation mental and verbal bombardment is the only way they can convince people, and they do it directly or indirectly for money.

God's Word is unchanging. That is reassuring, considering the scientists will tell you one day that eating this or taking that will relieve you of some ailment, and the next day, that is the poison that caused the problem in the first place. God's Word is unfailing. He never said His road would be easy, but He provided a way that would ease the load - His Son, Jesus, who is the answer to all the questions that scientists seek. God's Word is infalliable. It has been dissected and tried and still remains untouched by man and the futile attempts to challenge it.
